I was watching Family Guy on Adult Swim the other night and they had a promo stating reruns of Saved By The Bell would be airing on Adult Swim for 2 weeks beginning April 17th.

My thoughts: Yeah that's a good idea. Show a program at Midnight that your sister network runs 7AM-9AM.

And I always thought Adult Swim was just for cartoons and claymation, not live-action series.

Even if it didn't run on their sister network, how does this program relate -- in the most remote way -- to their format? This is part of another issue I've had with Cartoon Network recently and how this station is going down the drain.

I noticed a week or so ago, they were showing "Dumb and Dumber". How is this a cartoon again? At least "The Mask" would be somewhat understandable. Key word is somewhat.

Wait...SBTB airs on Boomerang??

As someone who is involved with a yearly multi-genre convention ( www.connecticon.org ) in the animation department, I would like to chime in and say this is a bad move, alot of the people I work with in the con are big adultswim viewers and I know they have been looking to invite AS to our con, but if this is what they plan on doing, maybe I won't be so gung-ho about the idea next time it's brought up.

The end of the Cartoon Network

By the end of this year, the Cartoon Network will have a new name and new focus. I suspect this a way for Turner to test the waters before spending loads of money to reformat the channel. This sounds like this is just the next step in Turner's bold experiment.

I believe that when this is all over, the Cartoon Network will fully be a digital entity under the Boomerang name. The current Cartoon Network, when reformatted, will probably end up showing little to no kids animation. The reformatted net will strictly be for teens and adults, and will have a heavy emhasis on sitcoms, movies, and anime.

We will be writing the ephitaph on the Cartoon Network within the next year or so.

Re: The end of the Cartoon Network

Turner??? as in Ted Turner??? He hasn't been a part of the network in years. It's all about Time Warner now. I thing you people are overacting (as usual.) Adult Swim pulls stunts all the time. This is just another strange thing for them to do to get people talking. Remember when they aired Christmas spots for a week last summer?

They've never made that declaration.

It's been quite heavily promoted and seems to make absolutely NO sense! Why would they toss this (forgettable) series onto CN when it has no business being on that channel. And, furthermore, how does it fit in with the other offerings on Adult Swim? It doesn't.

What a DUMB idea.

Just as long as "Robot Chicken" doesn't get the axe, assuming it hasn't already. I'd like to see it expanded to a half hour(yeah, I know stop-motion takes a while to do).
______________

Maybe they want to do what Nick and Disney Channel which I say are both much better then Cartoon Network or should I say CN. Nick and Disney both have made early teen series such as Zoey 101 and Unfabulous both on Nick to Phil Of The Future and Suite Life Of Zack And Cody both on Disney Channel. Both Nick and Disney are for kids ages 3 to 16 or so with Nick having Nick at Nite adults watch. As for Cartoon Network didn't they just start some shows for kids ages 3 to 7 but now they cut it as Disney and Nick both have their kid blocks with Playhouse Disney and Nick Jr.

Don't worry, even if AS fills up with pablum like Saved By The Bell, you'll still get the cartoons and claymation. They'll just be moved to Boomerang, and you'll have to get whichever digital tier your cable company offers Boomerang on to see them.

MTV started this sort of thing, everyone else has followed suit.

Or rather, live-action series that can be used towards the E/I rule on local TV stations.

The only thing connecting the two was that "Dumb and Dumber" had an animated series a few years back. Otherwise, no connection whatsoever.

TimeWarner has kept the name "Turner Broadcasting System" as the name of the division of the company that manages it's cable television properties (with exception of it's regional news channels).
______________

CN != Adult Swim. They just happen to share the same space. (Ever see CN branding on AS?)

"RC" just started a new season a couple of weeks ago (maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago, tops!). Actually, I like the show as the 15-minute show it is. Stretching it to 30, I believe, would "ruin it", if you would.

OK dude, but those are semantics. It's still a dumb idea. Clearly, Time Warner has a bunch of Saved by the Bell reruns in the can and is trying to spread 'em around. No matter what the consequences are. Almost as if the decision-maker at TW has never actually watched the fare on Adult Swim or Cartoon Network.

A clearly "corporate" move that will just serve to confuse and aileanate the typical viewer of Adult Swim.

You make a good point - and I wholehearedly agree about the lack of classic 'toons, too! Though I must admit that Robot Chicken and Morel Oral have become late night 'guilty' pleasures. Amusing stuff - in some cases it's so bad, it's good!

All that being said, the REAL problem here is: WHY "Saved by the Bell"? It's such a random show to jam into the lineup. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the programming, nor does it make any sense. Keep it on that smouldering wreck known as Nick at Nite.
