Affordable tube mics

I'm looking into an affordable tube mic, UNDER the $500 price point.

Ones I'm considering...

CAD Trion 8000

CAD M9

AT 4060

BLUE Baby bottle

Leaning towards the Baby Bottle or the CAD 8000. Would be used with an ISA 220.

Thoughts on any or all of the above??

Since no one else is throwing you an opinion, I'll give mine, which isn't worth much. I'm not a huge fan of tube mics, so I don't have extensive experience with any of these. But I do like the AT4060 quite a bit. It has the character of the AT family, which I like. It also has a very good reputation as a solid mic, so it isn't just the "flavor of the month"...It should have some longevity as a player in the market. I have not heard the new breed of CAD mics, but I was never really impressed with their older models.

Appreciate it Emmett. Always a good opinion and source.

What's up VO Dood?

How's that ISA treatin' ya? Hey, I had a few tube mics...

Never tried the Trion, but I've read nothing but positive reviews of their products.

As for my own personal experiences with affordable Tubes, I had a Rode NTK which was...pretty nice.

It's typical Rode mic sound...good, not great...the tube was nice, but there was not enough "grit" to it to give the mic any particular character.

I did have one that I'd recommend...

It was an APEX mic...I can't remember the exact model number, but I bought it, and a friend who rebuilds vintage guitar amps got me a different tube for it...put the new tube in, and that things sounds as big as a house.

There was some controversy a couple years ago about how this mic, which was like less than $300 ( maybe even less than $200? ), had the EXACT same wiring, components, EVERYTHiNG, as a similar Telefunken-USA mic...

And the Telefunken was about $1500!

Telefunken USA has since modified their design, so as to keep people...you know...TRUSTING them.

Anyway, check those two out.

I love all the Audio Tech mics...I have an AT 4050, and was about to get the 4060, but decided against it...not sure why, but I did.

Ok, I'm sittin' here at the airport gettin' ready for a week of "hopefully" some cool voiceover stuff in New York.

Talk to ya later...email me if you get the chance...

I can look up that APEX mic...the number 440 rings a bell. You missed that one on my liquidation blowout sale of studio gear when you got my ISA.

Take care

Hey Mike!

ISA still rockin! Just sold my UREI 1176 to buy another ISA. And have some scratch left over for a low cost tube mic.

I had the Apex your talking about. Honestly, I didn't have the patience with it.

I did have the RODE NTK as well. I liked that one. The local cable company has one paired with a 528e - and they have whisper booth! Pretty sweet for a cable co.

Any word on the Baby Bottle? Reviews are good. As are the Trion and M9 CAD reviews.

Just saw a BLUE Blueberry go for 540.00 on eBay. I should've grabbed that one! My buddy has one. Loves it. Airy on the top... great for deeper voices.

Decisions, decisions.

Just did a tv spot the other day - on camera! And worse... someone else did the Anncr VO, LOL!

Affordable tube mics..UNDER 500.00..ONLY one to consider is the MXL V69ME...around 350.00 if I remember. It is really really amazing, and if you can find a NOS Telefunken tube..replace the stock tube and be BLOWN away! But the special fraternity secret of voice people is to NOT tell anyone what you are using.
