AFLAC Cans Gilbert Gottfried After Insensitive Japan Earthquake Tweets

Meanwhile, the guy that does the voice overs for Geico ads - the same guy that left obscene messages on Dick Armey's voice mail - is still heard on Geico spots.

Edited to plead: I hope the woman who plays Flo in those Progressive commercials gets her own Twitter account, and she herself tweets something tasteless so that this woman is finally off of our TV's, off of our Internet, and out of our lives! Please? I beg of you!

AFLAC might as well kill the duck.

Not happening. I'm sure she's too smart for that.

That's interesting - I read over a year ago that AFLAC didn't use the duck in their Japanese advertising because Japanese people found it really irritating.

Maybe Gilbert was pissed that the Japanese people have rejected him?

So do American people. ;D

Apparently, so have Americans. I don't recall the last time I saw Gottfried do anything other than AFLAC commercials and the occasional bit on Leno.

What was he smoking? Was he visiting Charlie Sheen or Britney Spears?

I follow the Ledger-Enquirer newspaper in Aflac's hometown Columbus, Ga.

Here are a few of the "insensitive" tweets he tweeted."

What does every Japanese person have in their apartment? Flood lights."

"Japan is really advanced. They don't go to the beach. The beach comes to them."

"My Japanese doctor advised me to stay healthy I need 50 million gallons of water a day."

Aflac said it is pulling all of its commercials involving Gottfried off TV briefly. In the short-term, the comedian’s voice will be replaced with someone else’s, likely one used in separate promotions.

If we are going to take a poll of irritation commercials on TV, Neither the Duck or Flo would even make the list as far as I am concerned. They are just plain warm and fuzzy compared to a lot of the other stuff they claim in advertising on TV.

Who really cares? With what is going on in the world today, why should anyone care who the voice of the AFLAC duck is?

I heard on CBS that Aflac does 75% of its business in Japan, that might have something to do with it.

But jokes about disasters and people dying, are like the jokes themselves, it's all about timing

And speaking of which

What kind of wood don't float?

Natalie Wood

...I've heard that Kevin Pollak and Harry Shearer, who have both done impersonations of Gottfried's duck voice (the former with an "anthrax!" gag on Bravo's Dinner For Five shortly after the Dan Rather/Tom Brokaw mail terrorism incidents), have both turned down the replacement gig...

...Gottfried has done this kind of humour for decades. If Aflac was unaware of it, they had the embarrassment coming...

Can we get the Gieco lizzard to say some tastless jokes on a twitter account while were at it?

Can we get Geico to 86 the caveman? Messrs. Flintstone and Oop look better than him.

I don't see much of him in their ads anymore. However, I still hear the voice of DC Douglas at the end of most of their TV and radio commercials - ten months after he was supposedly "fired" for leaving that message on Dick Armey's answering machine. I bet if Gilbert had just gave ol' Dick Armey a call, rather than try to be (un)funny on Twitter, Aflac would have given him an extension, as if nothing happened.

The Gecko is utitlized for mainstream programming, while The Caveman is all over the NHL telecasts both regionally and nationally.

Yeah, I could easily find these funny if it weren't so tragic. If there had been a less disastrous event. Of course, I watch Seth MacFarlane's animated sitcoms.
