The strange thing about the WBOS website is that they have put Oz (late of
KBCO in Boulder-Denver) on it, which seems to indicate he is doing more than filling a shift for the week. I agree that the all-music morning isn't working, especially up against Scott Lucas, who is doing a great job on The River. I would disagree about other dayparts. I think Amy Brooks has always done, and continues to do a terrific job with middays. Joanne Doody is alright in the afternoons, and George Knight is a tremendously strong personality.
Ideally, I would think George should be doing mornings, Oz (if he is to become permanent) should be in PM drive and Joanne Doody at night, but that won't work if they keep "Over Easy After Dark."
Musically, the station is still quite weak. I wish they would take the plunge and finally become a true AAA. Lately they have done a good job of playing some deeper cuts from some artists, but there are still so many core AAA artists that get regular play on WXRV that WBOS won't touch. The nighttime show was a good idea, but it's gotten very stale. The River's "Acoustic After Hours" is a great place to hear music from artists like Cowboy Junkies, the Thrills, Patty Griffin, and countless others. George Knight's show, on the other hand, seems to be more like an adventurous version of Delilah with stuff like Jars of Clay, Don Henley, etc. I think the format works well on Sunday morning, but not every night of the week.
My thoughts anyway...
