Afternoon drive on WBOS-FM

Due to a very heavy work load this week, I haven’t been listening to radio as much. Has anyone caught Oz (http://www.wbos.com/airstaff.shtml) filling in this week on WBOS-FM during afternoon drive? I listened for a short time Monday on my way home from work and he mentioned that he was new to the area from Colorado. In the past, WBOS used Domenick Lewis as the fill-in for afternoon drive. Could Greater Media be bringing in someone to take over mornings, putting an end to the “All Music Morning” show?

WBOS sounds worse than ever before. Despite all of the supposed programming adjustments that the company made to turn things around, it seems to have made matters worse.

The All Music Morning isn't cutting it. I understand that concept, but don't see why anyone would think it woud work in a market with lots of politics, traffic and sports. To just have songs in the morning is ratings suicide.

The other dayparts are mediocre at best, a station that was once interesting and compelling has become wallpaper. In many dayparts and demos they are losing to The River... interesting.

Blow it up and start over with something new.

I went on the jock page a few days ago and folks are on vacation.
Amy brooks is out so Joanne was filling in for her and then Oz for Joanne etc.<P ID="signature">______________

The strange thing about the WBOS website is that they have put Oz (late of
KBCO in Boulder-Denver) on it, which seems to indicate he is doing more than filling a shift for the week. I agree that the all-music morning isn't working, especially up against Scott Lucas, who is doing a great job on The River. I would disagree about other dayparts. I think Amy Brooks has always done, and continues to do a terrific job with middays. Joanne Doody is alright in the afternoons, and George Knight is a tremendously strong personality.

Ideally, I would think George should be doing mornings, Oz (if he is to become permanent) should be in PM drive and Joanne Doody at night, but that won't work if they keep "Over Easy After Dark."

Musically, the station is still quite weak. I wish they would take the plunge and finally become a true AAA. Lately they have done a good job of playing some deeper cuts from some artists, but there are still so many core AAA artists that get regular play on WXRV that WBOS won't touch. The nighttime show was a good idea, but it's gotten very stale. The River's "Acoustic After Hours" is a great place to hear music from artists like Cowboy Junkies, the Thrills, Patty Griffin, and countless others. George Knight's show, on the other hand, seems to be more like an adventurous version of Delilah with stuff like Jars of Clay, Don Henley, etc. I think the format works well on Sunday morning, but not every night of the week.

My thoughts anyway...

I have no problem with the midday or afternoon shifts but George is THE recognizable personality on WBOS & needs to be on days unless it's his choice to do the night show. Between the almost calming effect of a jockless morning show & the other daytime shifts hosted by these soothing female voices I always feel like I've stumbled into some Lamaze session when I listen. Again, no problem with the personalities in question but there's no contrast.

By the way I heard some listener praising the station this morning & talking about how she listens in the car with her kids. They followed it up with Laid. I know they're not pushing the kid-friendly angle with lyrics but it was the best unintentional comedy bit I've heard all week.
