Per All-Access.com; GENESIS Sports WHBO-A (ESPN 1040)/TAMPA has dropped its local afternoon drive show "THE SWARM WITH MARC BENARZYK" and says it will launch a new local afternoon drive show on SEPTEMBER 7th called "PRIMETIME." The station did not, however, announce who would be hosting the show other than to say that it would "feature well known local sports personalities" and will air 3-7p (ET). The station plans to air an additional hour of ESPN RADIO's "SCOTT VAN PELT SHOW" 3-4p and ESPN's DOUG GOTTLIEB 4-7p in the interim while it readies the new show.

Afternoon Shakeup on ESPN 1040, Benarzyk Out

Good. Benarzyk was getting too cocky for the numbers and listeners he was pulling. I really wanted to like the guy 2 years ago when he started there. But the last year has turned into nothing but a "rip this topic, rip that guy" attitude to try and generate calls and interest. Any good host knows that's a really lame way to go about talk radio. ...And when he started acting like he was the best thing to ever appear on Tampa Bay radio airwaves, I'd had it. Bye bye Marc.
As far as who replaces him? Well you mentioned local TV guys and I'm pretty sure Al Keck has been outta work lately. I think he took a spin at 1010 a few years ago so he's a possibility. Otherwise, "local personalities" could also mean former players. ...And I know a few that have recently retired that are possibilities too. Timing is ironic since September 7 is just days before the start of the NFL season. The Rays are also probably playing into October so there's lots to cover.

I think I might have been one of the few that liked him. He was a very entertaining host, and had a lot of good topics. I listened to him while I was on vacation in April, and I thought he was better than Duemig and some of the other guys on. He was also one of the few guys to discuss the Rays more than the Bucs. He always complains about the Rays attendance.
Too bad that he is gone. He'll find another job somewhere.

You knew this was bound to happen, Marc Benarzyk was way too cocky and arguementative. But unlike Duemig who is known to argue with callers, when Marc Benarzyk did it, he didnt bring any facts to the table. And his pro-Miami stance was sickening. We have one Miami hack blowhard here in the mornings, we didnt need one in afternoon drive.
Here is me still hoping that the other Miami hack Sileo finds his ass out the door sometime...
But to his replacements. Ronnie Lane and T-Kraz? That isnt going to cut it. It was almost entertaining when Ronnie and Scot Brantley teamed up on 1010 years ago, they had pretty good chemistry but i'm not sure this is going to work.
