Afternoons on WIBC

I just read that the Chicks On The Right will be the new full time hosts of the afternoon show.

They want young female listeners. This is more likely to drive away more of their current core listeners and not bring in many new listeners. You can lead a horse to water, but if she isn't thirsty she won't drink.

I turn it off after Rush is through and often listen to Levin and Savage (Weiner) later in the evening if I'm not busy...don't watch much Tunnel Vision (TV).

Radio is great for background if you are multitasking.

The "Chicks" sound like "Hoda and Kathie Lee" on NBC. Total stream of consciousness, not much prep, maybe a glass of wine on Friday. Which probably means they'll get fantastic ratings.

Not impressed. Now we need a local news station, since WIBC has 100% sold out to the right wing faction.

Indiana is a historical red state, but not by much:

2012: 54-44 R
2008: 50-49 D

I lean conservative, but can't stand the "conservative talk" crap without facts.

As Indianapolis becomes more Blue, WIBC becomes more Red. Doesn't sound like a winning combination.

Hannity, Levin & Savage from 3p-midnight are each more compelling than anything on WIBC at those times.
Thanks for listening to Freedom 95 :)

Great news! Indianapolis has a news station at 90.1.

I presume the staff at WFYI are sending the staff at WIBC a thank you card.

You know, I don't know what I was thinking when I typed that. Probably steaming from the fact that WIBC has become Fake **er, FOX** Light in Indy now. Used to be a great news organization down there. Can't imagine with all the changes that Network Indiana survives very much longer.

NPR does lean left, but no matter what your political position, WFYI does offer better programming than WIBC in most hours of the day.

Abdul is ratings-challenged :) I called it on this thread. He'll be a great fill-in. Good hire for WIBC. Their PD is a genius. You can't keep throwing red meat to the conservatives and expect ratings growth.

Abdul would likely have better numbers in the afternoon than the "news" show that used to run or the "chicks" that will run. Chicks probably go cheap-cheap and Abdul is too busy with his other jobs.

Ok, so this is just a hunch...but maybe, just maybe the folks at Emmis
know more than....(now stick with me here) a bunch of radio junkies
that have never owned or programmed a station.

Maybe, again just maybe, they feel they can shore up their
conservative base with Fox and the Chicks.

Will it work? Who knows. As Steve Jobs reportedly said, he
was shocked that people would give up sound quality for the
convenience of MP3's.

Stranger things have happened.

Keep going though...you guys are really entertaining!

Yeah, maybe if those experts keep throwing things against the wall, they'll finally find something that sticks. Nothing wrong with experimentation, but so far the afternoon thing hasn't amounted to much for some time, and nights on that station don't offer a lot unless you're up after 1am when they finally air something live again.

In the process of moving back to Indianapolis I have been listening to the local market once again. Garrison, Limbaugh and Dana honestly make me want to blow my brains out!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks the direction WIBC has gone is terrible. I listen occasionally when I get tired of the iPod in the car, but it's cringe worthy. Too bad they can't get their act together.

Maybe, just maybe they succeed (however you measure success) because they are the ONLY talk station in town. Hmmmm. Means they can pretty much throw anything they want against the wall and talk-radio listeners will tune in. News and information would be nice, after all, that is something I cannot get on Sirius or my Ipod. WIBC is boring. I just is. It's not personal...it's radio. Not all of Emmis' properties suck (IMHO) but this one does.

Hi,

Just discovered this forum while doing some research. Great discussions in here.
