The song "Take Care" by Drake and Rihanna isn't as common on a lot of Pop CHR's as a usual Top 10, it's extremely Rythmetic. It is on the playlist of two Urban stations here (WUSL and WPHI) and not even daily rotation of a Pop-leaning Rythmetic CHR (WRDW)

WRDW spun Take Care 119 times this week.

In addition, WIOQ played it 53 times (#11 on their playlist). It is a top 10 hit nationally on both major CHR charts (Mediabase and Billboard). Can't get too much more Pop-friendly than that.

WIOQ is a half assed CHR, WPST is the better CHR in the Philly area, how many times did they spin "Take Care"?

WPST has played "Take Care" 49 times over the past 7 days. That makes it the number 10 song on their current playlist.

Looks like I stand corrected.

Sorry about the bashing on this song.

So let me get this straight - because it's Top 10 at 94.5 PST it's thus a legitimized CHR hit? ???
PST by the way can be heard in major portions of the Philly market, but is first and foremost focused on the Trenton area. Ratings-wise, and most certainly cume-wise it's nowhere near Q-102
Therefore, Q-102 = mass appeal Top 40 music for the Philadelphia area.

All the hits...'cept the ones the Atlanta office decides won't get airplay!

WPST covers the entire city, and all the way down to Wilmington. It has problems in the eastern suburbs. Which isn't a big deal, Philly's radio market is mostly urban, but the metro is mostly suburban. (Metro Population is 6,000,000. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delaware_Valley)

Actually, an urbanized area doesn't necessarily correlate with the population of the big city alone.
The metro New York City urbanized area doesn't just include NYC, but also nearby cities and counties like Newark, Fort Lee, White Plains, and major portions of Nassau and Suffolk counties.

If you look at Miami, the city's population is only 400,000, but the Urbanized area is pretty much all of Dade County. Not only that but nearby Broward County's about the same.

How about L.A.? The city's got about 4 million people, and the county's got 10 million. Three million more people live in nearby Orange County, and over 4 million more people in nearby Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Major parts of these places are Urbanized.

On the flipside, Oklahoma City, Jacksonville, or Anchorage's urbanized areas don't include some portions within the city limits. This is due to the simple fact that they are huge cities in terms of geographic size yet have low density areas that don't even look suburban.

The Philadelphia metro area is largely Urbanized with nearby cities, unincorporated towns, and entire counties falling under the Urbanized umbrella category.
Since you pointed out to Wikipedia, you might want to check out the Urbanized area for Philadelphia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia

Population (2010 census)
• Consolidated city-county 1,526,006 (5th)
• Density 11,457/sq mi (4,405.4/km2)
• Urban 5,325,000
• Metro 5,965,343
• CSA 6,385,461
• Demonym Philadelphian

PST is spotty in much of the metro (doesn't cover Chester, Delaware, or Montgomery counties well). Most people are not DXers and will not listen to a station that fades in and out.

Q102 is, without a doubt, the Philadelphia area's CHR. PST is a suburban rimshot that's been successful given their signal limitations, but they're a Trenton and Bucks County station, not a full market station.

Living in Delaware County, I gaurentee PST has no issues here. Montgomery County it's not entirely bad either.

I've driven up and down the Blue Route many, many times. WDAC interferes with PST for much of the ride. PST is listenable if you don't mind the cutouts and the static, but most people are NOT DXers and will not listen to a station that is cutting in and out.

Similar situation in western Montgomery County, and forget about getting PST on a typical clock radio in any of these places.

Just b/c Hot ACs are playing Pitbull doesn't mean they're no different in sound when compared to Q-100.

There are several stations on the Hot AC panel that could be moved to the CHR panel, and are in many ways hotter than Q-100. Most notably Q-102 Cincinnati, 98.1 WKDD Akron, Mix 106.5 Baltimore, and Kelly 95.3 Bakersfield (one of America's most unique stations),

Shame shame shame...

Nassua has got to be my favorite large broadcasting Corp, too bad they're going bankrupt.

Q100 definitely played that - not very much though

EDIT: KRBE is also playing it, 75x a week - Are you sure you have the right song?

I have yet to hear it on WZYP.

The Gym Class Heroes song is Top 15 at Q-100 Atlanta.

Probably one of the most interesting sounding Cumulus CHRs is Q-97.9 in Portland, Maine where they even play The Black Keys "Lonely Boy" in rotation

They're playing it - try listening at night I guess :-\

I know Clear Channel and their CHR's aren't favorites on here all of the time, but regardless, I think they're leaps and bounds better than Cumulus CHR's...at least their stations seem to have input on the "local" level and don't necessarily ignore tracks to the extent that Cumulus does.
I'd almost venture to say CC's CHR's are better than those owned by CBS - most of their CHR's seem too rhythmic for me....an exception would be WNKS/Charlotte, but they've not been sounding their best lately, WHQC is blowing them out of the water IMO...

I think Clear Channel ignores a lot of "potential hits" also - the difference is that Clear Channel owns so many stations that if they choose to ignore a song, it's literally impossible for it to show up in the Top 15/Top 10/etc. - so you can't say "Clear Channel is ignoring a Top 10 hit" because songs can only reach Top 10 with Clear Channel approval

Radio Now in Milwaukee is owned by clear channel...and it does not appear they ignore any hits. They were a tiny bit adult leaning...but now have gone even more current based. WRNW seems to notice any top 40 hit on mediabase. They follow the charts pretty closely. I do wish they would discover their own hits a little more, but that is a minor quibble...they sound good.
