guest on "Touching All The Bases." I don't know what's worse--Eddie's constand AHHHS or Eddie D.'s heavy Mass Accent. If there was a drinking game where you had to have a shot everytime he said "AHHHHHH," you'd be passed out within 10 minutes.

That said, the discussion is actually kind of interesting. Anthony Pepe is the other guy on the broadcast and does a good job.
 
I used to love Eddie when I was growing up and listening to the Sunday Night Sports Huddle when I was supposed to be sleeping gettign ready for school on Monday. Some of those prank phone calls were classic radio ( cant do them now because of FCC rules) I cant stand him now. I hate that 96.9 devotes so much time to the Andelman family.

keeping it to radio, I loved the Sports Huddle growing up. The prank calls and comedy bits, which were a lot funnier than what they use on the Big Show now (although those bits have their moments). I've mentioned it before but remember "Yawkey Jeans"? They come in "tight, extra tight and 'oh my heavens, did you see that?' sizes"... the way they viciously skewered Don Zimmer. Mark Witkin did a good imitation of Luis Tiant that ACTUALLY SOUNDED like him. The imitations of LJ and Pete Sheppard, for instance, don't sound anything like who they're supposed to be parodying.
 
Three hours(Phantom Gourmet) on Saturday to talk about food. That's a 1 hour show at best.Talk about a time-killer.Their father Eddie is a radio legend,on par with someone like Jerry Williams. His voice seems much weaker now(probably age).Eddie never knew much about sports.But I loved to listen to him talk bout food(obviously the sons listened),making money,his hatred of Bob Kraft(a former business partner),and his many travels to Vegas and Aruba.His numerous"AHHHHs" are annoying,but that noise is as much a trademark for him as another fat guy-Teddy Kennedy.

I dunno. Listen to Loren Owens once in a while on WROR. He can't get through a short sentence without 6 aaaahhhh's and 5 uhhhhhh's. I had to stop listening to Loren and Wally's live commercials a long time ago. It was torture.

The opening jokes with the carnival music were the best

The funniest commercial was Eddie and Mark doing the Lappens ad. I used to love the arguments Eddie and Jim had. I know Mark is a sports agent now I wonder what happened to Jim McCarthy. I heard Jim and Eddie had a falling out. I wish they'd do a reunion show.

Part of the reason I hate Phantom and Dan and Dave is they have no talent. They are just there because of their Dad's money.
 
... that opening bit was priceless. I had ripped an hour from '73 to MP3 but can't find the file. I do have the tape and will attempt to make an MP3 that I can upload.

a few years ago, on the Whiner Line, someone would call in doing an Eddie impression with the show's theme music (the USC fight song, I think) playing in the background and do jokes in that style.

'Family' is right. Take a look at the Phantom Gourmet web site...it's a 'Who's Who' of the Andelman family. I guess when you've got no talent or smarts, you start a restaurant review show that gets you free eats and a smarmy infomercial.

Come on guys, though it's clearly nepotism central, let's cut 'em a little slack here. TPG is still a fun little show to watch. Yes, I liked it much better when they had David Robichaud on board - but it's still a decent show. And, their weekend radio show on WTKK isn't bad either. At least they're mildly entertaining and not talking about spackle or paste! :D

You know what you're getting when you tune in and, being from NH, we've discovered quite a few good restaurants in Boston by watching. So it's not ALL bad, is it?
 
With regards to David, he can be quite obnoxious and it just seems like he runs around all day, putting on an extreme radio voice saying "Do you know who I am?" And he's already got a nice broadcast voice, it just seems even more put on at times....

The TV show is ok, I do like it....but the 3 of them together on the radio is great...I love it. And the fun part is, they talk about everything, it's not the typical boring "Yeah, I like this restaurant and I had a nice experience"

And you just can't get a weekly update on Michael Andelman's sex life anywhere else.

The TV show is not entertaing and it's horribly written. I just cant get past the fact that they are only there because of their dad. I really dont find Dan or Dave amusing or entertaining at all. Ive actually read a lot of complaints about their public events.
 
PG is a great restaurant show, and I don't think anyone could do a better job with it than Eddie's boys. If we were to start knocking nepotism at this late stage, it would wind up being a pretty long shit list.
 
Even assuming that Eddie gave them their start and got Phantom off the ground, they built it into a multi-media, multi-million dollar business with a lot of hard work. Like them or not, they deserve some credit.
 
Didnt this start when one of the sons had a shortlived talk show on WEEI. I heard that pissed off several staffers because Eddie was buddies with the old PD.
 
I've been tuning in to "Touching All The Bases" off and on and it seems as though Eddie has become a regular. I'd guess the reason he's able to do this is because his show on WTKK is a time buy?

Agreed 100%!

Their start was fairly modest and they've built PG into an impressive franchise. That takes some hard work and ingenuity.
