AI weather

Anybody have the name and contact info of a AI app that can automatically gather and summarize news and weather information from various sources and produce a newscast or weather forecast or sportscast? A prominent consultant claims it can be done but doesn't offer any backup info. TIA

Tom Churchill's digital weatherman used to do it.. it was his voice clips.. hed recorded thousands of phrases, and the system at stations would go out to fetch the forecast and assembled the forecast. Its no longer being offered i dont think after his passing.

Weatherology (formerly weather) uses a similar set up for their in house weather staff who do forecasts for a ton of midwestern stations........ their weather staff recorded thousands of phrases and it gets auto assembled and sent down to stations.. im on one that uses it.

so not an AI voice exactly but but done in the similar fashion

I’ve heard Weatherology forecasts on a station near St. Joseph and it sounded pretty good.

At KGAF, kgaf.net, the weather is done the same way. Plays near the top and bottom of the hour. There was a company that offered a weather service but the guy moved off to some place like Aruba. I had talked to him long ago. I am told KGAF's weather program is from that company but I suspect there might be some other more recent company involved.

From a sales perspective, the guy that moved off to Aruba (or one of those islands), offered a unique feature where you could get a sponsor and have the program give the temperature from that client's location (ie: it's 81 at First National Bank). They offered a number of 10 second commercial reads per month as part of another option for selling the forecasts. It was the best system I had seen at that time.

Some of the negatives: it will do weather just like the National Weather Service written forecast without certain rules written in. In other words, if it is a 20% chance of showers and thundershowers today, tonight and tomorrow, it will list everything each forecast period (today, tonight, etc) with the same 20%. In other words, as air talent we would see a forecast like this and say we have a 20% chance of showers and thundershowers through tomorrow. There are several other things the program has been 'taught' to do to keep the weather informative, accurate enough , word economized and simply 'not boring'.

It will do weather watches and warnings exactly as written. Simply put, you don't want all 37 counties of a Severe Thunderstorm Watch listed. At KGAF it either says 'for portions of our listening area' or 'for our listening area'.

"Weatherology" is the equivalent of AI weather.
Hooray for those few radio stations who use a LIVE meteorologist! Or at least a recording that isn't "scattered showers. Wednesday. high. 78. Fair skies. Wednesday night..." Dan Holliday's weather syndication company (I can't remember the name) uses full recordings that don't sound like robots. The Anderson Broadcasting cluster (KERR/KIBG) in western MT uses Steve Hamilton and Jennifer Narramore for their meteorologists.

Jennifer Narramore does forecasts for some stations in the Midwest, too.

Hamilton/Narramore also does weather on Mississippi Public Broadcasting, New Orleans Public Radio, and Baton Rouge Public Radio. WXRR/WKZW Hattiesburg, MS uses Weatherology which is nice as it includes current conditions.

i think all of dan's people are certified meteorologists.. i know steve, dan and jennifer are. we used dans storm report radio network at KIYU in AK with jennifer as our voice (poretty sure you get to pick which one you want)

KLMI uses weatherology and its great.... though one of the long standing plans has been for talent to record weather, but that would be talent would also have to record every single temperature between about -30 and +100 to report the temperature and have the automated system update it to the correct one every hour... and thats a lonnnnng process (just record one forecast for say, 3 to 7pm.. and then the automaterd syste,m goes out, polls the temp and drags in a clip of me saying -20 below in laramie)

The way we have our 'automated weather' running is it gives time, temperature and sky conditions every cast, every 30 minutes and the forecast is worded differently each time it airs. I never got curious enough to see how long the cycle is but I know at least 6 different ways of voicing the same forecast that I have heard. Haven't paid much attention as of late (too much in and out of car and thinking about my next call)
