AIR-1 96.7 W244BY - making another move

EMF is moving 96.7 to the WLOK tower. This will take them omni-directional from just a couple miles NW of where the signal originated.

W244BY new CP

W244BY, the translator on 96.7 licensed to EMF has a CP to move into the heart of Memphis. It's going to lose some coverage area but gain population, no doubt, and the parent station is showing as KJMS.

It's been a while since I've been to the big city - anyone know the plans for this station? I don't recall Air1 or whatever it was carrying being on KJMS' HD subchannel.

Re: W244BY new CP

It is Air one via KJMS. I wrote about the move it the other thread for the translator. It goes to the top of the WLOK-AM tower where 105.5 is located. I can see the top of the tower from behind my house.

Re: W244BY new CP

D'oh, sorry. I'll see if the mods can merge these. I glanced down the list of topics and must've looked right over it.

I'm wondering if the move is foreshadowing a change of plans. Down in Alabama when EMF moves a translator, especially to someone else's tower, they usually wind up selling it or allowing someone else to program it. That's what got my curiosity up about this.

I wonder the same as the new location takes the signal away from its intended demo. I'm sure WLOK would love to have an FM signal. Maybe someone knows and can tell.

105.5 doesn't do half bad at the location but again it's not really where it should be located. The public service tower WUMR is on, WHBQ TV tower, WKNO Tower would all better places.

EMF filed to move 96.7 to the WKNO Tower tower today.

99 watts at 831 Feet.

The 60 dBu contour looks nice from there. Looks just about like a Class A signal to me.
