Air America Declares Bankruptcy

Gotta laugh at this one folks! Air America has finally declared bankruptcy. Check out an article about this audio debaucle here: http://thinkprogress.org/2006/09/13/air-america-bankruptcy/

Here's the bottom line on Air America: If you can't make "progressive" talk radio work despite massive cash infusions by George Soros, Susan Sarandon and other limousine liberals, and if an illegal loan from The Boys and Girls Club of NYC doesn't help, then you have to realize that your product truly is awful!

But what do you expect from a radio business model that's completely opposite of everything that's been successful for conservative talk radio?

BTW, now you can bet that "Equal Time" legislation will be brought to the forefront in Congress, especially if the Dems capture the house. Be afraid...be VERY afraid!

You got that right! Free speach is only for a select political party in this country. I am no fan of Air America, but perodically, I forced myself to listen to them on weekends here when they were on 1690 AM. There was more hate and venom being spewed in a weekend that a normal person would hear elsewhere in a year!

So how is Mike Malloy? Is he still being heard on the few stations that continue to carry Air America?
 
Mike Malloy? Before my time. All I know is that 1690 is running Al Franken right now and that's the only remainder of Air America on this frequency.

Also: I heard Air america jettisoned Jerry Springer. Can't say that I'm not smiling about that. He's a peice of {Explicative Deleted}!

If Air America had filed for bankruptcy every time someone rumored it to be doing so, we would have ceased to exist long ago; it may be frustrating to some that this hasn’t happened. No decision has been taken to make any filing of any kind, we are not sure of the source of these rumors and frankly can not respond to every rumor in the marketplace.

I guess you'll have to suffer through hearing a non-republican voice on the radio a little longer.
 
I wonder who Air America will blame for their failure: Dubya, Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, Hannity, etc.

Just give it a day or two and they will make the official announcement.
 
With reference to the article that no bankruptcy has been filed, that article has changed since my original post. Air America is doing what it typically does, simply lying throught their collective teeth. What's their motivation? Simple. They're never going to raise the capital they need if they are honest about their financial situation.

That being said, here's some reality about this "network" that cannot be refuted.

1) They accepted an illegal loan from one of their cronies working at the NYC Boys and Girls Club to the tune of $750,000. It hasn't helped their ratings.

2) Despite all of the money that has been dumped into their coffers by liberal activists like George Soros, they have never made a dent in any market they broadcast in. Here in the ATL, they were a distant third behind the other three talk stations, and even the new Business Talk Radio 1160 station is drawing almost the same audience they had, AND THEY'VE ONLY BEEN ON THE AIR A COUPLE OF MONTHS!

3) They used a backward radio model to push their agenda. All talk show hosts that are broadcast receive a portion of the advertising dollars from the stations that carry them. Air America paid every station that ran their programming. So what you have is nothing more than an infomercial disguised as commercial radio that's beholden to its financeers to push their agenda!

4) They misrepresent their "network" in their own publications. In Atlanta, they call 1690 an affiliate even though they're running only Franken. In other cities, they name affiliates that aren't even broadcasting their programming!

And finally...

5) Their on-air personalities suck. Bottom line. Randi Rhodes is a lunitic, Jerry Springer (Jettisoned from their lineup today, though I'm sure he'll say it's because he's running for office) is a joke, Franken is boring and the rest of their talent is less than second rate. If any one of them had a product that was commercially viable, the network would not be in the state its in. PERIOD.

That's my take on it kids, and to be honest with you, I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner.
