Air America in Houston?

Why would anybody want poor ratings for their station? From Newsmax.com:

Air America Deflates

Despite the best efforts of Democratic financiers, sycophant supporters and the mainstream press, the Air America radio network is looking more and more like a big broadcast flop.

Ratings have been dropping faster than Cindy Sheehan's credibility.

Don't be surprised if you start hearing DNC talking points that suggest ratings aren't really all that important or that they're not a valid measure of success.

The network is probably best known for providing a talk show mike to Al Franken and Jeanine Garofalo.

Some respectable numbers have been seen in Denver, Seattle, San Diego and Miami. But Air America now occupies last place in radio rankings in Washington, D.C. and Boston. It's tied for last in Detroit. And it's moved up to second to last in the Second City, Chicago.

How's it doing in the most liberal markets in the bluest of the blue states? Well, it's 24th in New York, 30th in L.A. and 23rd in San Francisco.

More serious than its radio standing, though, is the scandal that currently surrounds it.

The network's beleaguered spokespeople have been working overtime, trying to explain why nearly $900,000, which was intended to fund social service programs for disadvantaged kids and senior citizens, was allegedly transferred to Air America bank accounts.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of America may even kick out its Bronx affiliate, the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club, for alleged involvement and/or cover-up of the scandal.

Oh, please!!! Look at the source...Newsmax funded by none other than ultraconservative moneybag Richard Scaife...

I think the ultimate arm wrestling championship would feature Scife vs Soros in a 100 million winner's choice of charity takes all!!!!

BTW, contrary to this article, Cindy Sheehan's credibility appears to be on the RISE based on a poll released today showing a majority of Americans think the Prez should sit down and talk with her....

In the markets analyzed below, the 12+ rankings don't tell you much nor do they consider that some of the stations airing Air America have come a long way in the ratings from where they were...give me a good sales mgr and a motivated sales staff and I can make money with ANY format in ANY market regardless of ratings...and besides, I think Al Franken is funny!

If you don't like that source then you get up and Google "Air America scam" or "Air America fraud" or "Air America embezzlement."

Air America embezzled 900K from the non-profit Boys and Girls Club to keep themselves going.

Don't need to, because it isn't true--or accurate, at least.

A miscreant at that Boys & Girls Club gave a miscreant in charge of Air America Radio a loan that ended up costing the club its camp activities and membership. It's been well established that Cohen was a fraud through his dealings with the radio company; now we know he helped pay for that fraud with fraudulantly-obtained money.

Of course, the right would chop, screw, and remix the story to make it actually sound as though AAR had robbed a Boys & Girls club at gunpoint. <P ID="signature">______________

Can't have it both ways. You just stated that Cohen was a fraud. End of story.

Network's Former Chairman Is Missing

By DAVID LOMBINO - Staff Reporter of the Sun
August 26, 2005

"The former chairman of Air America Radio, Evan Montvel Cohen - who former colleagues said engineered transfers of more than $800,000 to the liberal radio network from a boys and girls club in the Bronx - is missing, according to a lawyer who is trying to have him served with legal papers."

RADIO DAZE
Air America's Long, Odd Summer
The network’s travails have been fodder for right-wing blogs.
By Nicholas Varchaver

"To liberals, corporate double-speak and financial shell games rank as cardinal sins. That’s why it’s been jarring to see the progressive talk-radio network Air America accused of the kind of maneuvering that the Al Frankens of the world would normally rush to condemn.

The seeds were planted in 2004, when Air America’s debut was followed by the discovery that the fledgling operation was verging on a financial meltdown. Founder Evan Cohen, an entrepreneur from Guam, was fingered as the main culprit—though he proclaimed his innocence—and ousted. Then, in June, the New York City Department of Investigation announced a probe of financial improprieties at a Bronx Boys & Girls Club. A key player, it soon emerged, was Evan Cohen, who had been holding down a job at the Bronx group while launching Air America. Cohen allegedly helped engineer an $875,000 loan from the nonprofit (Boys & Girls Club) to the merely unprofitable (radio network). "

That's OK, Brucie...

What your flog really wants to do is slime and slam progressives. We used to call all that smoke and noise "whistling past the graveyard"...meaning you can see the end of the Bushies and their coterie coming quickly and you're trying really hard to say "t'aint so".

Whether or not Air America succeeds or fails is inconsequential to the butt-kickin' that's a-comin' for the Religious Right/FOX News/Hannity-slobberers, et al, in the '06 and '08 elections.

I, for one, can't freakin' wait. As Daddy used to say..."Paybacks are a b*tch!" :)

Progressives. What a laugh. It's called LIBERAL, my boy.

And all this drivel, from a "compassionate, caring & tolerant" liberal, who made the following post:

I hate it when politics is injected onto these boards. In this case, a response is warranted.
