Re: AIR AMERICA MOVES - AA Press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AIR AMERICA RADIO TO BROADCAST ON WWRL (1600 AM) IN NEW YORKCITY

NEW YORK – August 3, 2006 – Air America Radio and Access. 1
Communications Corp-NY jointly announced today that Air America Radio will
begin broadcasting on WWRL 1600 AM beginning September 1, 2006.
This change represents a new strategic alliance between the two
organizations for a long term home for the Air America Radio station in the
New York City marketplace. WWRL will become the flagship station for the
Air America Radio network. The announcement was made by Jim Wiggett,
Acting CEO of Air America Radio and Chesley Maddox- Dorsey, President &
COO of Access. 1.

"We are excited about our new affiliation and the platform this move will
establish for Air America in the years ahead,” said Wiggett. “We look forward
to forming a long term and strong relationship with Access 1
Communications."

“We are thrilled about our new partnership with Air America,” said Maddox-
Dorsey. “It is important that we partner in offering the nation’s largest radio
market a strong, progressive voice.”

Air America was previously heard on WLIB 1190 AM.

It makes lots of sense. There was nothing matching WLIB's old listeners on that station. Did they even have 1 minority host??? Air America is a waste of station unless they become more like the people in the Democratic Party

Huh? Air America was outbid by Randy Michaels, who reportedly will put his own liberal format on WLIB, including Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz (both of whom are very white). It remains to be seen how many minority hosts he'll hire.

Huh?

They were elitist extreme-left Bush-bashers.
That sounds a lot like what the party has become.

They only like minorities if they agree with them.

Consider what they say about Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, and Condi Rice.

A promo announcing the change aired just a few minutes ago on WLIB.

Cool. I can listen to Miller live instead of having my PC capture the show every day!

So much for those fools who keep predicting the demise of libtalk. Starting in September, Market One will have TWO competing libtalk stations.

wonder if air america tried to strike a deal with AM620, AM930 or AM1380 before signing up with AM1600? where I live in NYC --those three stations are heard better than am1600. am1560 often interferes with am1600 where I live---especially at night. The larger question is -- will air america even exist after 2008--- if Hillary wins or loses ????

sorry--I just recalled --- air america had past legal issues with Art Liu --owner of AM930 and AM1380. (is am620 still up for sale? how about am1280 and FM105.9 ? I seem to recall hearing they were all up for sale--- then heard nothing more.)

My personal politics aside, Air America has again taken a radio station whose core audience is Black, and alienated them with liberal talking white people. Stations such as WLIB here in New York and WHAT in Philadelphia, are heritage African American radio stations, who have never made their dial positions accessible to caucasian people, and in the later years, became rallying points for listeners who have a distain for white people, even with liberal politics in common. WHAT in Philly used to havre a life-0sized blow up photograph of Dr. King in front of a WHAT mike flag in their lobby..a community shrine.

WWRL in spite of all of its changes, was a black radio station, is a black radio station, and has never made itself particularly accessible to white people. Now Air America arrives to chase Black Adults off of yet another radio station.

Let's hope they bury the call letters...because WWRL by any other format is a Black radio station.

I know nobody will say this but let's take "black" and replace it with "white".....

Hmmmm.... I imagine there might be some problems with that.

Honestly, do you really blame AAR for that?

They don't own the stations. I think this issue should be taken up with the owners of the stations. After all, they're the ones who put the AAR programming on their frequencies. And the owner of WLIB was complaining for years about lack of ratings and cashflow coming in to the station.

People who bash AAR about this whole racial issue only care about it because it's just an excuse to bash them. Bash AAR for other things, but not for the stations that aired the programming. It was their decision.

LOL..... NY's Market #2 (Buffalo) has had TWO competing libtalk stations for a while.

Buffalo leading NYC, huh?

Of course, it's nothing to be proud of. They killed oldies WKBW for that crap.

You pegged it.

But you forgot .... the typical liberal answer to that is "minorities can't be racist" --
which is the biggest fallacy in their whole ridiculous repertoire.

I've been listening to WLIB for more than a hour and haven't heard any such promo. What did it say? Seems strange that they would be promoting a change of stations that won't happen for another four weeks.

I'm not familiar with the skin color of all the current WWRL talkers, but I do know that Sam Greenfield and Alan Colmes are very white.

And hasn't WWRL been competing with AAR on WLIB almost from the beginning of AAR? They may not be outwardly progressive, but it seems to me that the majority of their lineup is left-of-center.

I thought the question was: will air america even exist after 2004 election? Than it was: will air america exist Jan 2005, than April 2005, than September 2005, than Jan 2006, than March 2006, than July 2006, now it's 2008? Well, at least it's been given another 2 years from the naysayers. LOL
