air america

it was reported that 1010 was going to flip formats on january 1. ..there was no change.

it was reported that 1010 was going to flip formats on february 1. ..nothing happened.

if air america - phoenix were moving to another frequency, wouldn't we be hearing promos on the station advising the listeners to the changes by now?

February 1 is tomorrow.

Yes. AFAIK, Air America will go away tomorrow, or at least as soon as Communicom closes on the station, unless and until they find a new home. I haven't heard anything otherwise.

It sounds like they'll get a brief reprieve in that they could well be on tomorrow, but I don't think you'll be hearing promos for a new station.

Goyette is going to become a born again christian and do a bible fellowship show. Then after 6 months, he will quit and go to another station and do a muslim show.

If it were even remotely true, it would've happened in conjunction with the format flip announcement. There's no interest on the part of the buyer.

To think that any day now we'll hear promos is wishful thinking. It's not an easy format to sell.

The truth is, that between formats that can have paying shows on niche formats and a decent ratings number to bring in agency buys, there's a huge gap. Unfortunately, making both work is near impossible. If AA could make a 3+ in 12+, would've attracted bigger ad fish. It's easier to sell block spots on a religious niche, and get NTR and advertisers that feel the same way about being on a Christian format that liberal companies felt about being on AA. There are a lot more of the former in the world than the latter.

Just like I said that there would be no Class C running "Chill" (an easy predict on my part) - much to the dismay of those who think that this is what the Radio-Info Phoenix board is intended for;

Just like when KFNX tried to go legit, I said I'd stake my children's lives on it not lasting;

AA will not be back in Phoenix. At least not in the next 10-12 months.

If you guys want to get all the facts, all you had to do was ask! :-]

During last weekend, I heard someone on the station say that they would be staying on through February. Sounds like they have atleast another month.

I would think there is a chance that Clear Channel would pick them up as they have done in other markets..Air America on 910 or 1230 would not be out of the question...After all-Clear Channel put AA on a Fox Sports station in Miami and did a bunch of format bouncing to get them on in Los Angeles.

No way 910 does anything. WINZ in Miami was the equivalent of 1060 without the brokered hosts; just another FSR affiliate to make Premiere happy since they didn't have anything better to run. With WQAM owning sports in South Florida and WAXY having just flipped and being willing to invest in talent, 940 made sense to flip... especially as a nice combo sell to clustermate WIOD which suffers from the disinterest in English-language talk in Miami. But KGME is the top sports station in Phoenix and not just a throwaway Fox Sports satfeed. And in LA, they moved the sports to an actual LA signal, allowing them to dump the 690/1150 simulcast.

BTW, ask the Chickboss, programmer of 910, what she thinks about liberal talk. Not tripping over herself to put it anywhere.

And 1230? At least 1480 is protected.

...and they knew 690 was going away to keep the DOJ happy, so they moved the format they didn't want over there...<P ID="signature">______________
