Air staffs on jack

How many locally programmed jacks in the US have at least a partial air staff? I no that jack in KC has air tallent on until 7 in the evening I think. New York I think has a person in AM and PM drive.

Personalities on the Jack in NY? Are you sure 'bout that? Perhaps they have someone giving traffic updates?
My understanding was that NO JACK FMTM's have in the US have any live personalities, except for mornings, like the JACK in San Diego. ABC's distribution has no live personalities. Do you perhaps mean a non-JACK branded Variety Hits station like Mike FM, etc?

The Jack in Indy has an airstaff.

Then again, it is a Jack station in name only.

Oh, and it sounds much better these days. :)

Many of the JACKs have people on the air. Dallas was the first CBS/JACK to add a host. JACK in NYC has Amy Scott 6a-9a (she also hosts the Excellent 80s Diner at noon) and Delphine Blue does afternoons. Chicago just added a morning host. Indy and KC have air staff...even some of the ABC JACKs have morning shows.

Most of the specifically "Jack" stations in the U.S. are indeed jockless.

However, many Variety Hits stations have personalities: Arch-St Louis, Peak-Phoenix, Charlie-Portland, Bob-Austin, Louie-Louisville and a handful of others. I think these stations are doing well with some of the credit to having a "soul" metioned in another thread (which is missing on most Jacks) but they are also musically much better focused. If you hear many of these other derivations, most them have presentations mostly devoid of Jack's "it's all about us" self-serving wise-cracking me/me/me posture. I believe that and just plain better music probably helps them more than having jocks, though having personalities allows these stations to feel like they have beating hearts (vs. being kept alive by pacemaker, a-la Jack).

Jack here in Jackson doesn't have an airstaff, however, they have a contest in which they call people to guess how much money is in the jackpot and whenever they make a call, they put in on the air.

The Chicago Jack has no airstaff. Nine FM has airstaff during the morning, midday, and afternoon dayparts. Early evenings for approximately allow people chosen at random (who register at weplayanything.com) to play their favorite top 9 songs, and around 8-9pm hour is automated. Sunday - Friday night at 9pm & 8pm Saturday, it's brokered dance program Dance Factory Radio, and that goes on until 4:30am Sunday - Thursday & 5am Friday & Saturday. Originally when Nine FM started, they had airstaff in every daypart. Then around the time program director Sky Daniels left, evenings was eliminated, then overnights. Traffic reports used to take place in the morning & afternoon dayparts, but at least the afternoon traffic reports were eliminated. I don't know about mornings though, as I'm usually asleep during the early morning hours.
