Air1 flips to all worship.

Air 1 has flipped to all worship. What was the reason? I thought they were doing well as CHR based Christian format.

Air 1 was always a stepchild (it always got the weaker signal in town). Maybe the elimination of the younger Contemp. Christian format in favor of an older format has something to do with the "nones"?

It might be. There is a LOT of disillusionment that's been bubbling up among Christian youth over the last few decades that was largely ignored by the mainstream until very recently when the poll numbers shocked everyone. I would have thought the sharpest game plan for something like Air1 would be adding more crossover material and public outreach. But I suppose it's easier to program for the choir than to challenge the norms that are causing the disillusionment.

I agree with you in principle.

What I think is happening is that EMF is a ministry that principally wants to reinforce the already devout Christians in their faith and to provide a kind of radio programming that is missing in most of the cities where they operate. In other words, it is not a proselytizing ministry but one of comfort, guidance and reinforcement for those who are believers.

Beyond that, the station is financed by its own listeners, not a ministry that has funds destined for the conversion of non-believers or the recuperation of those who are not practicing Christians. So they don't have the fund for outreach, and need to focus on those who are, as you say, already in the choir. They are a service to the faithful, and they know how to reach out for donations for that group.

I don't think they regard their mission to "convert the heathen". They see themselves as a reinforcement for those who are in the flock.

A heck of a lot of young people who grew up in the church don't think of their LGBT friends as "abominations", are pro-choice and abhor evangelcalism's full-throated support of Trump and all he stands for. No shock EMF has to forget that age group and target older.
