Wasn't it Hank Hill that said, "Can't you see you're not making Christianity better? You're just making rock n' roll worse!"

yes it was when Bobby went to see the four score.

Anyways Houston now has

89.3
99.7
103.7
105.7
1070 AM for Religious programming, I wonder if it will hurt heritage KHCB?

It could be worse, Cox could sell 106.9 back to Salem ;D

1070 AM for religious programming? I didn't know that.

There's also 88.3, 90.5, 100.7, 1360, plus all the Spanish language religious stations.

you forgot KSBJ 96.9 which reaches lower edges of Houston :)

KSBJ has often been a "farm" station for K-LOVE and Air1. Air1's midday jock Copellia served time at Air1. I believe she's back at KSBJ now.

One of my favorite stories of old time radio was from 1924. Radio evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson had a station that drifted up and down the AM dial. It got so bad that the FRC came calling. So Sister Aimee reportedly sent a letter to then Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover that said, "PLEASE ORDER YOUR MINIONS OF SATAN TO LEAVE MY STATION ALONE."

That's funny. And now the minions have purchased 103.7.

Just kidding.

Maybe.

I read it and thought we had time travelled back to the 90's. I don't know what 1070 you guys are listening to but the one here in Houston is a talk station, not a religious station. Just because it's owned by a Christian based company, I guess.

I gotta say this, and let the gnashing of teeth begin, but I like the change. Tell me what format would have worked better on this God awful rimshot? Honestly. Were there those on here that wished for 103.7 to try a different language? I mean, don't you all realize that's pretty much what you would've gotten had EMF not purchased the station? Air 1 runs commercial free and it BENEFITTING the communities that it serves, whether you are a believer in God or not. I'm sorry that AAA no longer exists in Houston and Beaumont, but it is a format that will have a lot of appeal to folks both in Houston and the Triangle. Dare I say, moreso than "103-7 FM". Sometimes, I just don't get it. Bitch if it flips to Spanish, bitch if it flips to Christian, bitch if it's plays the wrong type of rock, or country, or AC, or the music is sped up too fast, or not fast enough.

Simply put, I think some here have nothing better to do than bitch.

I mistyped it for 100.7 as it used to be on AM 1070.

When KKHT migrated to 1070 AM from 106.9 FM in 2000, it remained there for only four years. This year will mark KKHT's eighth year on 100.7. KNTH 1070AM has been newstalk since December 2004. In the entire history of 1070 AM, it's time as a Christian Teach Talk station and it's time as an international broadcast station are the shortest time that the formats stayed on the frequency. The two longest formats are the original country format as KENR from 1967-1982 and the current newstalk for mat 2004-2012. From 1982-2004 several formats were on 1070. One of the best was Classic rock 1070 KRBE with Paul Christy and Ted Carson on morning drive.

I have to add another short period of time was the Radiomagazine KENR/KRBE from 1982-1983. I was there on afternoon drive along with Mike Shiloh who is now on both KNTH and KKHT.

Fond memories of Carson and Christy! Chuck, for the life of me I can't remember if they were on 1070 before or after they were on KZFX.

It was before KZFX, which was a very good station.

I have an aircheck of Christy and Carson on 1070 from 1984. Two years before KZFX hit the air. I'll post it later. Waiting for my Internet to be turned on today

As some here may recall, New Wavo sold 103.7 to Cumulus back in 2004...for 32.2 million.

The same year KRTS was sold to Radio One for $72.3 million. Micheal Stude looks like a financial genius in hindsight, and the New Wavo folks probably have a huge grin on their faces as well.

Perfect storm of an economic bust combined with technological change.
