Aircheck: J-Wave "Brand New J" Tokyo 28 October 2007

In 2007, Tokyo's J-Wave began to offer a separate internet stream called "Brand New J." Brand New J is an unusual mix of western pop hits, jazz and Japanese pop hits (J-Pop).

Copyright rules appear to be much more restrictive in Japan, and there are much fewer internet streams for broadcast stations in Japan. In fact, sometime in 2009, Brand New J became a stream available only within Japan.

Here is a recording of "Brand New J," recorded on 28 October 2007. The files are 192/44.1, and can be found at this folder link:

For some of you, this aircheck may not qualify as Smooth Jazz. To my ears it had a vibe similar to the early years of NAC, which is why I posted it here.

This actually doesn't surprise me too much, as contemporary jazz is quite popular in Japan. There have also been a number of Japanese new wave/SJ artists who achieved some international popularity, notably Keiko Matsui, Sadao Watanabe, and Kitaro.
