I just realized looking at the calendar that in a month it'll be exactly ten years since what many of us still consider THE modern rocker in Philadelphia, WDRE, left us with a bang dubbed "Bitterfest". With all due respect to Y100, and of course its current gig on 88-5 WXPN, in my opinion we alt rock fans haven't really had it that good since, and of course 103.9 FM has become a waste of airspace. Anyway, with thanks to Radio-Info vet Scott Lowe for sending me the airchecks, I'm gonna attempt to upload the Bitterfest show in installments for those of you who remember, don't remember, or only read about it. I of course remember it well, but it sold out so damn fast I couldn't see it in person. Until I get that ready, in the meantime here is the official announcement of Bitterfest during Preston Elliott's afternoon show from about ten years ago THIS month. Ironically in this clip it's Jim McGuinn along with Preston, and oh yes, the lovely Marilyn Russell. Here, DRE actually gave its listeners an honest few weeks notice on air. Can you name any station that actually does that these days? Me neither. Originally the file was pretty big, so I scoped it a bit. Click here...
