KCLC was and is based out of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. The station had a jazz format from the early 1980's until 1991. They also had specialty shows like bluegrass, which ran on weeknights. In 1991, the station shifted from jazz to NAC. They kept this format from 1991 to 2002. KCLC has a signal that covers most of the St. Louis area (35 kW). While most NAC formatted stations made the shift to Smooth Jazz in the mid 1990's, KCLC stayed true to the original idea of the format--jazz, rock, AC, folk, New Age, and world music. Lightning struck the tower in 1998, and they ran with low power for over two years. After a management change in 2002, KCLC dropped the NAC and the bluegrass format and is now a AAA station, known as "The Wood."
