I used to live in Cape back in the late '70s/early '80s. Back then the market was alive and cooking. A long-established AM/FM combo (KGMO) was getting its rump flattened by a 250w AM daytimer (KJAS 1170 in nearby Jackson).

Last time I was up there (fall '98), 99.3 was running a very cutting sweeper: "Real Rock 99-3 ... the competition is just WITHER-ing awaaaaaayyyy!!!" I howled, because I knew that competitor KGMO 100.7 (CR) is owned by *Withers* Broadcasting. (my then-g/f-now-wife wondered what was so funny...)

Just like back in the '80s, when KCGQ was 'rock 40' as "Q-99" and its terrible 3,000-watt signal dominated the market over KGMO's 100 kW blowtorch. A continuation of the previous decade, because KJAS originally put 99.3 on the air to begin with!

I'm always looking for vintage airchecks from the Cape area.
