AJ Davis

So I turn on WSOS this morning and AJ Davis wasn't on the air. Instead, I heard Craiger (as the imaging voice, not himself) introducing the ET Minute, going into a break, etc. No Steve Fox, or anybody live.

When I came in to work and looked at the station's website, sure enough, he's not there.

How long has AJ been gone, and is there a story behind his departure?

The station sounds great, but has been an abysmal failure with ratings & revenues. AJ used to be one of Renda's ace production guys, I'm speculating he probably returned to production. Renda is not alone with the recent revenues downturn. In Jacksonville they fired their entire promotions department. It's not news, but Renda has been systematically firing heritage voices and talented people for some time now. AJ is one of the good guys and a tremendous talent too. Woody voice tracks his show 3p-7p and is Renda's stand alone
promotions guy for Gator, Lite, Sunny & Movin. I can't make it up..

Speculating again, Movin has been jockless during mornings from the start.. Maybe going jockless during morning drive is a new trend.

The idiot is a CC clone and admires them greatly, so I guess the idiot will probably follow their cost cutting methods.

"Radio is finished as we know it. But that doesn't seem to matter to people in radio. They talk a big game... The guys that run radio are these big people and they regard themselves as big people... I laugh because they are big in their own minds." - Cramer

AJ is one of the good guys. Sorry to hear that. The budget axe will fall until all radio stations are just empty rooms with computers churnng out those same 3 songs. Woody is also one of the good guys. So now he gets to do about 10 people's jobs...

This upsets me to but I'm not really surprised. And this has nothing to do with A.J.'s talent, he's really good and I have enjoyed listening to him over the years. But having talent doesn't matter as it once did.

Jim Byard did morning news with AJ, plus on WEJZ, I noticed his profile was missing on the Lite website.

I would hate to think he's gone too. He worked from 4Am till 5pm as he was news and responsible for production. Plus came in on Sundays..

AJ's a great guy and will land on his feet somewhere in town in the biz. Mark my words.
The rumors of Jim Bayard's demise are greatly exagerated ... all you have to do is turn on WEJZ's morning show to find out. Btw, he also does all of the public affairs shows and files. You'd think listening would be the next logical step after viewing what may have been a web glitch.

I worked with AJ back in 1978-80 at the Big Ape (AM). He is a good guy.
