Al Bernstein

A New York Metro area station should hire Al at once! He's one of the few jocks I've heard anywhere who put personality into the bland Lite FM/AC format. Actually would inject tongue in cheek humor too. any chance Fresh-fm will call Al ?

Memo to CBS Radio (CBS FM and/or Fresh 102). HIRE THIS MAN!

First they fired Bill, then JJ, Steven E.....why not just sign the damn station up with Muzak and let the tapes roll?

I think Harvey Holiday does 9am to 3 pm on WOGL Philly. not sure if its all live. but maybe Lite FM and other stations will soon go to 6 hour air shifts. also I've had people tell me clear channel raped radio and now wants to cash out. harsh words but seems to me other companies are following that model. I recall 3 hour air shifts then you'd do production and come up with promotion ideas. those days are long gone it appears.

You've got to wonder if, had Al been let go before CBS-FM's return, he would have ended up on CBS-FM. Honestly, I would love to hear him on CBS-FM. His voice and upbeat personality would certainly fit the format. I remember that after CBS-FM's demise in '05, when I turned on Lite-fm, I would always love to listen to Al. He sounded like he was having one hell of a time doing what he loved, and I don't get this strong "vibe" from any of the other LITE staff, although I do enjoy Valerie Smaldone, Victor Sosa, and Herb Barry.

Al Bernstein is the one LITE personality who I could see on CBS-FM. I remember hearing JJ Kennedy doing an "audition" on WCBS-FM-HD-2 on the day before 101.1's flip back to classic hits. She didn't sound as natural with the format. Bernstein would, and I hope that he ends up somewhere soon. He deserves it.

No doubt about it --- Al would fit in on cbs-fm and a few other stations in and near NYC. if he was let go there should be no problem with another station picking him up tomorrow if they want to, --- right? I wonder if Al has called AFTRA for assistance? I could not resist that!

While that sounds great (both on-air and conceptually), doing a one-off special show on the weekend doesn't pay the rent. They need to give him a normal shift, ASAP.

I have an idea, why not 101 FM overnights? Gee, a live person in the studio manning the controls and speaking on the mic. What a concept!!! :-\

I've not met "Bernie" but it really sucks when you get stabbed in the back like that.

Or maybe slip Al in 7-midnight and push Ron Parker to overnights. I can only stand so much Parker at a time. I've actually found myself turning on Delilah occasionally, and admitting that isn't easy... ;)

Wasn't Al Bernstein out a few years back due to a heart condition? If so, it's amazing clear channel did not fire him then. clear channel did that to a friend of mine. He had a stroke and was in rebab. clear channel coldly fired him. And they told his wife his personal items at the station had been lost.

I saw Vince Santarelli's post on the dentist's board where he was talking about Al Bernstein's track record and the history of Al's career.

He started in 1974 as a weekend guy on WQIV until he moved to middays until 1975. He went to WNEW-FM where he does the weekend shift for a short time until he went to WRVR (now WLTW) when it was a jazz-oriented station.

He went to WYNY in 1979 to do middays until 1981 where he went to WBLS in evening where he was taking over Vaughn Harper's place.

That same year, he went to WKHK (now WLTW) as both middays and morning personality. Two years later, he was on midday until the station becomes WLTW in 1984 and stayed there for over 20 years when the station reached #1 and has been forever since the station's life long history.

What's going to happen to Al? I wish he will end up on CBS-FM "New York Radio Greats" show in the near future.
