Al Gardner programming in NYC

Just read that Al Gardner (ex-WBT morning guy) is acting Program Director of FM 101.9, Merlin Media's all news FM. The VP of Programming was let go after just a few months after the station signed on with no noticeable ratings improvement. Gardner is slated to program Merlin's FM in Philadelphia once the FCC approves transfer of the license to Merlin from the current owner. Al's tight with Randy Michaels, the head of Merlin Media. They used to do a show together on WLW in Cincinnati.

FM News 101.9 has no idea what it wants to be or who it's talking to! Long-time CBS all-newsers WCBS and WINS have not been impacted at all. :)

With the ability to access any news site whenever we want is there any point to news radio anymore except for in car listening?

I know you can have news radio on in the background but sometimes I just don't need the noise, just a little relevant information.

Well apparently they are giving it a try at WPTF in Raleigh right now, with the talk shows moving to the other AM station. Including Neal Boortz from WSB. Wish they would carry his show live on a Charlotte station, instead of the 1 hour rerun that may still air on WBT.
