Al Jazeera English Now Blocked In US

Al Jazeera's English language service is now blocked in the US, as the service premieres Al Jazeera America. If you try to watch Al Jazeera English on a video device you get a billboard telling you to watch Al Jazeera America. Unless you use a proxy server, you can't see the International feed. You can watch BBC World and CNN International but not Al Jazeera English. Not a good sign.

Not really a surprise, either: They're doing it to grow the new channel amongst cable operators and cable subscribers.

Hopefully, the AJ-A website will be pretty robust in sharing certain video segments/stories for cord cutters like the other newschannels.

You all can still access a live video stream of Al Jazeera English's programming from a computer in the United States without the need to switch to a proxy server.

Please explain how! Would love to watch CNN International and Al Jazeera.

^If I do, that might go against the terms of service here.

^Because it's true. As for how the streams can be accessed, I suggest requesting such information by e-mail, through another message board, or through a search engine.

No, you can't. Stop making up stuff about secret URLs. They are also blocking their videos on You Tube from US viewers. More misinformation from Examiner.com.

Ironically, many cable companies (Time-Warner, AT&T) have refused to carry the channel and the Al Jazeera America is not being streamed at all.

Maybe they are trying to court cable companies by shunning newer technologies, despite the fact than many other cable channels do make content available online.

Go to YouTube...

Look up Al Jazeera English

Then use a YouTube Unblocker.

I won't post a link as I'm not sure if I'm allowed but Chrome and Firefox have lots of extensions.

Just tried it and it works for me.

Don't depend on inaccurate right-wing blogs. Here is a report from an actual, professional newspaper:

NYTimes.com said:
Those fans had grown accustomed to watching the pan-Arab broadcaster’s existing English-language news channel, called Al Jazeera English, via the Internet. But on Monday, Al Jazeera English turned off its live stream for users in the United States. It also started to geo-block the news reports it posts on YouTube, so that instead of seeing the videos, American users saw a message that said, “The uploader has not made this video available in your country.” ...

Why were you trying to discredit me with lies about me?

I discredit inaccurate information, in particular, and Philip Anschutz and Examiner, in general.

BAM, there's your AJE, along with links to any channel, anywhere around the world. Google is your friend, people.

I see this as a move brought up by the cable conglomerates that AJ figured might help their distribution of AJE. I know I'll miss the easy access to the AJE stream, but there are alternatives (see above).

Lord knows AJ doesnt exactly need the $$$ that would be brought in by expanded cable access. Thanks, Kabletown!

Well, the blocking of AJE is one positive side effect of the debut of AJ-A.

Since the channel isn't likely to garner much additional clearance, it'll be money wasted by their parent.

It also keeps the rejects they've hired off welfare, so some more goodness.

That's really about all the positives that will result from this change. Well, that and Cenk Ungar has lost his broadcast spot.
