Sports Radio 1010 will fail again because if its went away 3 times it will go away again. By the way anyone know of a web site for it? www.sportsradio1010.com doesnt seem to work.
 
I thought they really sucked. There's your opinion. How much back patting and "oh this is so great, thank you" do we need. I tuned in once to the Chix and they were talking about shopping at TJ Maxx and something about shoes. Hard to believe someone in a suit actually thinks this thing is gonna fly. Without the network power of ESPN or Fox and lacking any local promotion whatsoever (for a launch no less), this station is set up basicly to broker time and make very little money. I don't think ratings or beating WDAE or WHBO is the point here. I think the plan is to make a few bucks off it and believe it or not, the entertainment talk format will give them that chance slightly more than classic country.

Not sure about a web site (another sign this thing was thrown together within the last week or two)... but I did notice they're calling themselves "1010 Sports".
 
Broker time! ;) Of course! NOW it all makes sense...

"Sports Rap with Chris Jones -- Coming Soon on 1010 Sports"

"Coming this Fall to 1010 Sports -- Talkin' Sports with Randy Harris"

"1010 Sports -- with Live Tampa Smokers fastpitch softball!"

...and wrestling shows galore to cut promos for the EWA, the UWA, the MeWA, and leagues you never heard of...
 
CBS Radio has enough money to pull ESPN back to WQYK-AM, now the question is will they? Probably not, because 1010 is always going to suck. Plus WHBO is doing well for itself right now with the network backing.
 
Infinity played their cards with ESPN already as far as 1010 is concerned. They took the affiliation from WDAE. ESPN accepted the deal to get more of their shows cleared despite the signal issues and the fact that WDAE is one of the highest rated sports outlets in the country.

Then 1010 ended up clearing less programming than promised and then abandoned the format and left ESPN looking for an affiliate. While Maduri is a small time operator, he has been loyal to ESPN in his markets and had lived up to his clearance promises. Despite Infinity's corporate clout, I doubt the ESPN radio suits would make a change.

The affiliate clearances for ESPN/ABC radio have been handled by the same guy since the begining. He is powerful within the organization and one vindictive, self important blowhard. He won't forget what happened before.
 
Maybe this is just an attempt to pull the Rays from 1250.. a time buy for 162 games would be more money than 1010 has made in years, I'd have to think....
 
Ok...time to dig this one up again. Remember The Lightnings first season? Remember GM Phil Esposito driving back through North Tampa, listening to the Bolts on 1010....then losing the signal at Cheval....( For the out of towners: A very fancy neighborhood where Espo and other luminaries like Gen Schwartzkopf call(ed) home...within a slap shot of the City Limits.)

The Rays ..or any of the big three teams...will NEVER AGAIN use that station, at least as a flagship.

Now..if CBS wants to throw money away by putting the Rays on one of the CBS FM's....

Of the three big teams here, The Rays are a distant third.Given yet another abysmal season, I hardly think thats going to change..
 
Al's doing a good job with no calls. The Chix are doing their thing.

I hear Joey from I'M TEED OFF on 1470 is in negotiations with the Animal and 1010 to do weekday mornings.

Joey is the funniest and most talented radio broadcaster in Florida and is destined to go national within 2 years.

Never heard him since I can't get 1470. I'd listen to 1000 kHz tone for 2 hours over Dan Sileo.
