Al Roker: Time For Imus To Go

Sometime tells me that everyone will win in this situation except the Rutgers team. Imus will lose his job either by resigning or being fired, He will then probably get a job with Sirius/XM and get mega bucks. Meanwhile Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson score political points with their community and their power increases. And in the end the only ones who end up hurt are the poor Rutgers team. Man that's totally unfair.

Frankly, this whole situation is very sad. It is very clear that Imus is over the top (of course, he's been over the top for years). The Rutgers basketball team has a right to be offended at those remarks. Although I can understand where Al and Jesse are coming from, what about forgiveness? What about helping someone who genuinely wants to change if Imus is sincere? Furthermore, it's high time to confront the hip hop artists about their language as well. :(

It's high time that we realize that this is an AMERICAN problem. We need to raise the standard in this country and begin to treat each other with the proper respect and dignity. Will there be room for comedy and satire? Of course! Should there be room for comedy and satire that is demeaning, degrading, and downright ugly? NO!

Quite a well-written piece by Mr. Roker. I agree that Mr. Imus' remarks were reprehensible, vile, rude, crude, socially unacceptable, and indefensable. He owes every player, parent, and coach of the Lady Rutgers basketball a full and honest apology. However, I do not believe that he owes Mr. Roker, Revs. Jackson and Sharpton, or me a thing. If anything, those gentlemen whose self-professed first alliegence is to Jesus Christ, should take a page from his play book. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins. As Christians, we should do no less than forgive.

If Mr. Imus' confession and repentance is insincere, the Lord doesn't need Revs. Jackson and Sharpton to help. Rev. Sharpton stated that he deplores similar degrading language of certain rap artists, yet he has not been nearly so vocally demanding that their employers refuse to record their efforts or fire all those who play such music.

If Revs. Jackson and Sharpton are so certain that humankind must punish Mr. Imus for his wrongdoings, I would respectfully request that they ask the Lord for the permission to cast the first stone.

Who cares what Roker says? Everyone knows the real voice of the black community is Oprah! What does she think??? Will she have Imus on for a verbal beatdown? Or will she give him a makeover and a car? We NEEEEED to know!!!!!!!!!!
