Al Roney Out at Talk 1300

Syndication would be better that what they have on now, It is Awwwwffuullll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Noticed the other night Michael Savage was on til midnight. Great move since WGY axed the show. Would prefer to hear him live though.

also: 1300, crappy signal? It covers the intended service area just fine... (tri-cities and burbs)

Savage is live from 9-Midnight now. WGY didn't axe him. Savage quit his show when he won the suit against his syndicator. They had to pick up something else when Savage said he wouldn't be returning to radio for the "foreseeable future".

He signed with Citadel (Levin's syndicator) a month later and 1300 lucked out. I'm assuming the move to the 9-12pm slot was so that he was no longer competing with Levin in so many markets.

I beleive Citadel is now Cumulus which Savage brags out be so good compared to what he had. Now they need to fix afternoons. M.B. is really bad

Savage's deal is with Cumulus, not Citadel. I believe he is on LIVE now on 1300, not rebroadcast as he was on WGY. His company changed, his shift apparently changed. I even heard him seemingly live last Saturday night; "Call Now" promos tend to be on live shows. I think 1300 re-airs his first hour for the last hour. Doubtful his shift has anything to do with competing or not competing with Levin. It's radio, there will be competition somewhere.
It would be great if Dennis Miller could air for the afternoon drive, not stuck with piecemeal best-of on Sat/Sun.
Then perhaps a signal improvement.....

Not sure...but WGY has bigger problems. Their morning show leaves a lot to be desired. Chuck is ok, but Kelly has to go. She is arrogant and comes off to be better than their listeners. I absolutely can't listen to her.

WGY was impatient and signed a contract with a new show about a week before Savage's return was announced. They screwed themselves. They had to turn it down. I'm sure Cumulus would have wanted WGY instead of 1300.

Good point, John. Michael Berry is quite funny, very edgy. It's good to have another option. It's also good to hear Levin an hour earlier.
Perhaps it was his contractual problems, but Savage started to sound more and more like a crotchety old man. It's great in smaller doses. He seems slightly happier in general since his syndicate shift.

Since this thread is about Al Roney being forced out at Talk1300, what is the general consensus of how Melody Burns is doing in his place? Personally I find her to be pretty ignorant and misinformed about most of the topics she talks about on the air.

Melody is awesome! She is on target tackling the tough topics... I hear she might be asked to fill-in for Michael Savage very soon. She knows her stuff, and she loves the heavy metal bumper music. Besides that, it is wonderful to have a smart woman on local talk radio in drivetime. She could eventually be nationally syndicated.

Another thumbs down! When I first heard her on weekends she was an in your face knee jerk right winger. Maybe she's changed but her voice is very irritating and her style bossy.Reminds me of "Vicki Guerro" of the WWE. Al Roney is conservative but much more listenable to listeners with contrasting views.

I agree Chuck. I never heard Al talk down to "liberals" as much as she does. I think her over the top attitude is to mask the fact she doesn't really know what she is talking about on most issues. She is all about the shock value and hearing her own voice on the radio.

The fact that she continually describes everything regarding liberals or democrats as "trash" and "garbage" is just ridiculous. When President Obama won the re-election she was on the radio freaking out about having to deal with another "four years of this garbage".

Also, I like the WWE reference! Excuse Me!
