Alabama-40 hr Week

Well it's Labor Day. I guess you know what that means. We have to be bombarded with that 40 hour a Week song from Alabama. It's not a bad song, but it always sounded like they were pandering to the fans. Radio loves the song. It was OK for a while, but the last few years I reach for the knob as soon as it comes on. It has become the "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" of Labor Day. My Apologies if you are a fan of the song.

Honestly, I got tired of it some time ago when Clear Channel made it one of their chosen songs, so they played it daily. I can't say if they still play it, as I pretty much stopped listening after they kept the exact same playlist for over a year. I don't hear it very often on non-CC stations.

But yes, no doubt we will be bombard. Sadly, there are a number of great songs which have similar meanings, only with actual feeling and emotion behind the lyrics, but those never get played.

10-4 on that boys!

ya, merle's got at least 4 dozen songs on the subject of labor, and workin class people. many of them even big familiar hits. wonder what would happen if a CC air personality(computer operator/line card reader) went rogue and up and played " a workin man cant get nowhere today", or "workin man blues" on labor day.

would it cause a mass panic? would all the pre25 year old urban/pop country listenership change the channel?

come to think of it, remind me not to invite great uncle to the labor day BBQ. you know he's a WWII veteran, and an opinionated old red white and blue blow hard. besides, he wouldnt fit in with all the young urban progressive socially engineered videoits, and obamites.

very sad people! whatever, i dont listen to CC's narrative on country music programming. why do you?

I think the song's all right, but what always bothered me about it was that line about the Kansas wheat farmer working a 40 hour week for a living. Having relatives who are farmers, I can unequivocally say that no farmer I know works only 40 hours a week. ;)
