Alabama LPFM Roll Call everyone! Who's broadcasting now? Formats?

WALW LP Moulton is on with a southern rock/oldies format. They have a good signal, also. I've heard them about 25 miles to the east. Always wanted to log them here in Cullman, but never did and probably never will since Way FM came on 98.3 here about 6 months ago. Speaking of LPFM, can they go HD?

You heard them 25 miles away? That's odd, since they are limited to 100 watts at the most. Sounds like something might not be right!<P ID="signature">______________

I thought the same, but I did. I was in the big city of West Point, Al. coming home to Cullman. Must be the best 100w signal on the air.

They have a great signal and they are operating 100 watts....the lay of the land in that area is favorable for lpfm....

Mapquest shows three Alabama West Points (proud of that name, eh?), but I'm guessing you were driving down I-65. A quick look at WALW via our propagation software shows an area of 100 microvolt or greater signal predicted along a 10-mile run south of Hartselle, about 30 miles out from the transmitter site. If the channel is clean that's an entirely copyable signal for a good car radio.

Even the 54 dbu contour (the half-microvolt signal that's the basis of the traditional station "coverage map") goes out 10 miles to the east.

I can confirm from hearing them while traveling that WQJJ-Jasper is on with oldies and WVMB-Madison is on with gospel.

It's worth noting that Pirate Jim's LPFM list says that all but three of the Alabama LPFMs that have been issued call letters are on the air EXCEPT for the three of the largest markets:

• WFAN-97.9 in Huntsville
• WXMT-105.5 in Pelham (FM Atlas lists this one on 103.1)
• and the trio on 103.3 in Tuscaloosa

And - even though it is not an LPFM - I am also able to confirm that WRNK-89.5 in Selma is now on the air as well.

Concerning WRNF, they are still rasing money, so that they can build this station. I'm always checking on its status. Right now, that frequency is still silent. In the near future, they will be signing on, with their new 6000 watt signal. When that happens, I will be excited.

The tower will be located, near the Old Pea Ridge Landfill, in the northeast part of Dallas County.

The calls will stand for Robert C. Neef. He was a past president for the Moody Bible Institute. The owner of this local Moody outlet, wanted to honor him, by using letters from his name. I think that is awesome, for the owner, to do this.

Moody is currently having their share (Fundraiser). Some of the money they get, will be used to help build WRNF. I have been hearing them say this, over WMBV from Dixon's Mills and WMFT from Tuscaloosa. Both of these stations are managed by the same person, that will be involved with WRNF.
