For a time in his afternoon show, Browning used to feature recordings of prank telephone calls from a man to various places. The caller sounded like Browning, but it was actually someone else. It was interesting to listen to the responses of the person being called and since it was going to a place of business - like a department store - they seemed to try and do all they could to assist the caller who they didn't know was pranking them. I've always remembered on one of these, the prankster called Macy's in Manhattan and said he wanted information about a "Freudian slip". The operator replied, "that would be lingerie....I'll connect you".
I don't recall the pie-in-the-face call-ins, but it does remind of a cute girl where I worked who once said that she always wanted to hit someone in the face with a pie and would also like to be hit in the face with one.
