Alan Colmes moves to evenings

Starting March 4th Alan Colmes' show will be on from 6-9 PM Eastern time, re-locating from his late night slot of 10 PM-1 AM Eastern time. There will still be re-feeds at 10 PM and 1 AM. No show is replacing him (for now) in the late night slot. This is according to the new clock sent out to affiliates.

Can't find Colmes in the Denver market. Then again, reception on my house radio is suspect, especially AM.

I always enjoyed Colmes' popular local show back in the '80s on the old WNBC AM in NY. Didn't matter that I disagreed with 70 to 80% of his views. I always bowed to his on-air wit, the fairness afforded all callers, and the creative stuff he and his team did in the studio was as funny and informative as anything Imus was doing hours earlier on the same station. WFAN's takeover in '88 forced Colmes out the door. Months later, He resurfaced on WMCA.

I remember speculation that he might rebound to his old WABC gig for a while. Don't know if that ever happened since I was already exiled to Texas. Nobody lampooned his earlier gig @ the ABC flagship than Colmes himself, making frequent sport of management's promotion of "The Alan "B" Colmes Show. Get it? Alan B Colmes...

Colmes started his FOX NEWS career shortly after I exiled back west. I felt then, as I do now, that he didn't seem as relaxed as he sounded in the '80s on radio.

So tell me, what does Colmes do on the radio these days? Mostly call-ins? Is he having any fun?

Yes, Colmes takes calls and has guests on, often Conservative guests to present both sides of an issue. Colmes has only limited clearance around the country. I know he's on 50,000 watt Progressive Talk 1520 WWKB Buffalo but he was dropped a couple of years ago from WWRL NYC 1600. His show also airs on Sirius/XM's Fox Talk Channel 126.

I wonder if being on earlier will give him any additional affiliates. This puts him in conflict with syndicated progressive host Leslie Marshall, who does her show from 7-10pm. I think Norman Goldman also has a syndicated evening Progressive Talk show.

Colmes airs on some stations around the country that take the Fox Radio line up as is. They're okay with a progressive host late at night. But will they be OK with Colmes coming on at the end of PM Drive with his liberal views? I don't understand this move, unless Colmes doesn't like getting home at 1:30am.

Gregg-- thanks for your informative reply (reply #2).

Re, ..."coming on (after) PM drive with his liberal views"... That's an interesting question. On TV, the chemistry between Colmes and his right wing counterparts, though sometimes contentious, seems otherwise civil and cordial. His charm pays off well, especially while doing on-air combat with the perpetual oposition, fellow contributor and sister-in-law Monica Crowley.

You're right. I still see Ch. 126 show up on my dial. But when I listen, it's just a continuous loop telling me to tune to the Fox News TV channel. Too bad. I can't get Colmes now.

I wonder why this channel was discontinued, although I only listened for Colmes on occasion.

I do see they now have Power Channel 128, a Black Talk channel originally only on XM, now on my Sirius line up.

I rarely listened to Ch 126 except for Alan Combs. The rest of the show hosts were boring. They already have 4 political talk channels anyway.

I wonder how many existing affiliates will actually move the show to early evenings live. With the way the XDS reciever works, you can delay anything you want and air it whenever you want. Gone are the old days of "Let's see what's available on Starguide"

SiriusXM and Fox News couldn't reach an agreement for a contract extension. Wondering if something can be agreed to when Fox News TV audio is up for contract renewal.
