Alan Stagg 1951-2007

I first met Allan when he arrived at WCKG in late 1987 or early '88. Our paths continued to cross during my 13 years at WLS, while Allan was on Kicks County, WXCD, etc. However, I lost track of him in the past couple years.

Allan was a one-of-a-kind guy. He was innovative and edgy...probably too innovative and edgy for some of his stations. He was ahead of the curve before the curve was cool.

I'll never forget his stories about the Tin Foil people...the time he made a comedy bit out of the executions of a ruthless Romanian dictator and his wife...and, of course, the creative genious that was Sanctuary.

My sincerest condolences to Allan's family, friends and co-workers.

Steve Scott

...after he was cut from WXCD, Stagg cut some interesting anti-Bush commentaries and posted the mp3s on the Web. Are those still downloadable somewhere?...

I met Allan when we both worked for ABC, he at WXCD and me at WLS. Fantastic radio mind and I agree with my former co-worker Steve Scott, we was too cool for the room and was way ahead of his time. I remember when I was listening to him during his "Sanctuary" program and he mentioned the passing of Chicago Bears great Walter Payton. He played the classic rock song "Spirit In The Sky" in honor of Payton, well, now when I hear that song, I will think of Allan. He was a classic. I will miss him.

I interned for him briefly in the mid-90s when he was at 'CKG... an incredible talent and one of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure of meeting. RIP, Staggula.
