Jimi ~

While nothing can replace the "glory days" of WCBS-FM, you -- and everyone else -- are invited to get your fix of the aforementioned Stones, Supremes, Beatles, and Marvelettes at www.wjrz.com, if you're out of over-the-air listening range of Oldies 100.1, WJRZ-FM. This morning, for the second time in as many weeks, there was a Record Pig contest winner from Nova Scotia.

And here's something unique: the station's even been known to take requests -- and actually play them! (When's the last time you heard "Can't Find The Time" by Orpheus, or the Beach Boys' "Sail On Sailor"?)

Is this the same Anita Bonita that I used to hang out with/talk to all the time at the original,Scott Shannon era Z 100?

Alas... they barely get a signal into Monmouth County. One of the high points of coming back to NJ was to crank up the Walkman while gelling at the beach. Now I've got to crank up the 'pod instead. Terrestrial radio sends another loyal listener packing!!!

There's another one? My mother always said that one was plenty. Come to think of it, so did Shannon.

Same hours, but now my address is .2 mHz down. :)

Great to hear from you, young lady, it's been A WHILE!I will check you out on line(I still keep in touch with SuperShan periodically,as per his recent hospital stay; he's not too thrilled with my liberal ideology,he's cozy with Hannity,Rush, and the other Klan members!
luv ya,

Ah, the old six degrees thing again. Jimi complains about JACK, Ms. Bonita answers (one of the voices on the original JACK-FM) about her groovy gig at Oldies 100 with Big Jay (boy did Greater Media get a hell of a show!), Jimi is working with my latest project - RadioX on Long Island.

I feel like Kevin Bacon (and some eggs)!

Hey, not so fast...
I like Jack FM, especially that one down in San Diego that has that uh... What's that thing called?

Oh yeah, "The Jack Music Monkey." Love that!
(And I like that Jack San Diego streams on my Linux based OS)

Sorry, this is the NY board, isn't it? I like that one too.
You know, CBS FM 101 is on HD now, and some of the music on Jack and CBS FM is the same. So, I really don't get what all the fuss is about any more.

Ok everone, quit Jackin' Off, stop Monkey'in around and get back to work...
Unless this is your work?

Garrett: All the fuss is about what has happened to the "history", (not to mention the quality) of not only a great station, but a great medium that is now "over"-run by conglomerates concerned with "only" one aspect of radio...SALES!!! That's what's wrong!...and hence the symptom of "what all the fuss is about"!!!
These people don't understand nor care that a "license to cover" means "to Serve". To them...it means SELF-SERVE...and nothing more!

Tired, tired, tired argument!

I like the history as much of the next guy. But "history" shouldn't be standing in the way of progress and making money. Sorry, it is a business. Otherwise, those stations you like would not exist AT ALL. Nothing, not a darn thing would be on at all, just dead air, and maybe NPR.

Democracy is about business. Business means progress. Otherwise, we'd all be driving cars with fins and watching black and white TVs. And, what you fail to realize is taht License goes to the radio operator to run his business. It's freedom for him/her/them to put on whatever they feel is appriate according to the FCC. After that, it's their signal to do whatever with. It's CBS's signal, they can do whatever they want with it. They can play the songs forwards, or backwards or super slow, they can call it Jack FM or Crap FM or whatever. If the FCC allows it,they can do, it's their signal, not ours. But those Transmitters cost money to run. Then you have to pay the engineers to keep that thing running. No money, no engeineeers, no transmitter, no juice, no signal, nothing. So you better be able to pay for all that, and that means sell air time.

Sorry, I didn't make the rules, that's how it works. It's been beaten to death here. CBS FM wasn't paying the bills, at least not enough or the doors were getting ready to fall of. Either way, the change was made, it was made for a reason, and everyone needs to just move on now.

Everyone HAS moved on(the listeners)

Ok then.
But it is a Capitalist system that we live in, and that was my point, and radio in America functions as a part of that system, just as Windows Media Player functions on Windows. Don't try using it in Linux...

I appreciate your post which is loyal to Capitalism. My complaint is that licensing requirements only allow professional radio station purchasers (as opposed to broadcasters) and their attorneys to buy radio stations. In most of the Northeast, that would be the case anyway. But in places where there is not an overwhelming demand for radio stations, small operators are priced out of the market by licensing requirements. Foreign individuals/corporations and convicted felons are also banned from ownership.

Radio should be open to anyone who has the money or the funding. It should not be harder to buy a radio station than it is to buy a home or a piece of land.

And there would be broadcasters in any and every condition if the licensing requirements were deregulated. It would be competitive in a way similar to internet radio. So please consider this. Our system is better than most places, but it can stand a lot of improvement.

Steven Green
A Capitalist.

Correction: Partial Capitalism. It is not purely Capitalist, if you have to go the Comissar or The Big Brother Bureaucrat in Washington and get permission to have a radio station in the form of a license from the Authority that rules over us all. That is Socialism with a franchise to have your own radio station.

Other businesses may own the land that they operate from as well as the factory or store. But in radio, the entreprenuer may own the station, but the government retains control of the airwaves. If the license is taken away, then the radio station does not have much potential to profit the owner.

The solution is to remove the government as the landlord. In a free market system, the airwaves as well as the broadcast facilities will be privately owned.

CBS-FM/Jack never had a signal past Route 33. They have to protect 101.1 in Philadelphia. That is not new at all.

Spending most of my time North of 33, that was never an issue.
