Alaska Alaska Public Broadcasters saved. - $3.5 million in funds committed

The problem is, with an economy that appears to be losing its footing, one wonders how long the giving to these stations will continue.
Strange. I was on a conference call with my investment account advisors, and their prognosis is extremely positive as to the economy.

I think he is referring to,Alaska's economy, which is ranked at the bottom of all states for slow GDP growth. The state is too reliant on oil and gas, which is a volatile industry. A BIGGER problem might be the lack of state income tax.

Good point.

David, the stock markets are doing well in certain segments, tech most specifically. Many other segments are barely holding their own. The market's been going up because, and only because, the signals are that the economy is softening and Mr. Market believes that will force the Fed to lower interest rates. If Jerome Powell and his fellow governors hold strong -- or stubborn, depending on your point of view -- and keep rates steady this week, watch for the Dow, Nasdaq and S&P500 to drop like a rock, possibly 1500 points in a day. Then it won't seem quite as "extremely positive" any more.

Two tings of pedantic note

I still cant pronounce that licensee name even after catching a legal ID of theirs over the air from 500 miles away last fall. they are rare here. This is my audio:

They are still legally KBRW Barrow as thats what the FCC recognizes as their city of license, despite the city name changing

As much as 70% of the stock market increase is attributed to AI investments. As reality sets in and the AI bubble bursts one could see a dramatic drop in the overall market. With inflation staying higher than the FED wants, hiring and employment declining, consumer spending and confidence decreasing, I am concerned we are in for another round of stag-flation. Something we have not seen since Ford was president and it took Paul Volker crashing the economy to get us out of it.

Why would the FCC still recognize the old name? The city voted the change to Utqiagvik in 2016. Would it simply involve a license modification filing to reflect the new name, and KBRW never did that? Or is there some larger legality with place names?

I think simply because they never filed to change it.

There was an AM in Florida, I forget which one, that was licensed to a city that no longer existed because it got annexed into the next nearby city, but it was never changed on the license

What does any of that have to do with Alaskan public broadcasting stations?

I listened to the .mp3 of the legal ID. Right after the "KBRW Barrow" I thought I was hearing the beginning of CBS Radio Mystery Theater. Instead, it was just Michael Jackson's Thriller. 😁😁

I'm really happy to see that you made this list, @SomeRadioGuy. Will this funding cover everything you lost as a result of the CPB shutdown?

Also, I'm curious about the Alaskan stations I have in my bookmarks that aren't listed there. KSKA, KVRF, KDLL, KTNA, KCAW, and KTKN. Do you have any idea about what their survival situations will be?

Just FYI...KTKN-930 AM Ketchikan, is a commercial station, not a "Public" station.
