I'm away from home for a few more weeks. My mom says she can't listen to Dr. Laura now because 650KENI won't come in on her radio. Says it's just noise. Do you know anything about whether they maybe have shut down or something?
VelvetR - where does she live? I haven't heard any problems with 650, and just now I checked and it's coming in loud and clear (ironically when I turned on the radio 650 was midway through a Dr. Laura promo).
My issue with KENI is that I'm so close to their transmitter I pick them up all over the dial.
PA Jake, you remind me of a time long ago and far away when Dowling Rd. was actually a dirt road and the only thing on it was the KYAK office and studios. (Now the KENI xmtr bldg.) Stood out front one evening with CE Norm Fish and watched them build the mobile home park. Norm laughed and said he hoped they liked country music because they'd be getting it in their refrigerators.
Mom lives a little past Sutton. She says a friend was driving into Anchorage and heard Ric Ridell telling somebody they were only low power for days or maybe a week or more. She says she can hear 650 in the daytime now but still not working good until she has had breakfast and it's light outside. That's OK because Dr. Laura doesn't start until afternoon.
Hmmmm not sure if or why 650 would power down. But like I said, I live so close to their transmitter they could yell from the tower and I'd still hear them just fine. Where I used to live back east, I was so close to another transmitter I'd hear them in my telephone. Still, it wasn't as bad interference-wise as it is here with 650.
