How about for starters the lack of a meteorologist on weekend mornings at WTEN channel 10. When its time for local weather we get to see a map with music from ABC.
I assume you're referring to the local weather segments during Weekend Good Morning America.
Actually, Albany's not alone on that. Many stations don't have a weekend morning newscast. As a result, there's nobody there to do a local weather insert. It's not worth the expense to pay a meteorologist and a studio crew to come into work for an hour, just to do a couple of 15-second cut-ins. (Especially if union rules or labor laws dictate being paid a minimum of 4 hours.) It's not like WTEN's local audience for Weekend GMA would double if they
did have a meteorologist.
Many affiliates that don't have a weekend morning show actually pre-tape their Weekend GMA (or Today show) weather cut-ins the night before. While that does fill the void, it can also backfire if the forecast suddenly changes overnight (or was just plain wrong to begin with). Nothing looks worse than a weatherman calling for bright, sunny skies, when it's downpouring. Because of this, many affiliates simply don't fill the hole -- they just stay with the network feed.
If WTEN ever did a local morning newscast, they would probably have the appropriate staffing to handle local WX during GMA.
WSYR in Syracuse does a local morning show from 7-8am, followed by Weekend GMA. Looks like they have the anchor, weather guy and tech crew stay through GMA to handle local news and wx. WSTM in Syracuse actually has a "local sandwich" -- one hour of news before Weekend Today, then another hour of news (mostly repeating all the crap from the first hour) after Weekend Today. Obviously with that format, everyone is on-hand for the local inserts during Today.

Do we have television in the Albany area? It's doubtful. I have not seen a post from Albany viewers in months.
You're certainly more than welcome here, but I'd guess the lack of Albany TV talk here could be attributed to a competing board. Maybe there's another board that's more popular with Albany people. Most of the TV discussion here seems to span between Utica, Syracuse and Rochester.
