Albany Programmers

Who is the best programmer in Albany? Who is the worst? Juicy stories to back up your pick would be great.

Not in market but nearby...WEQX ...they USED TO have a prodigy programmer...Tim Bronson was the best PD that station had ever seen. It's been nothing but downhill since he departed. Biggest mistake they ever made was letting him go.

Anyone know where he is nowadays? Hopefully making someone lots of money putting his programming genius to use.

As for others...hmm…there are a handful of good and two scoops of marginal. There are dozens of incompetents

Gotta give the props to Rob Dawes. I was very impressed when we were both on Johnson Road. He has the passion and it shows!

I have to agree with you. WEQX sounded great under "Bronson". It had not sounded as good since the Jim McGuinn days of the early '90s. The changes in music were very noticable after Bronson left, and I can't listen to it, nearly as much as I did.

John Foxx is the best PD that FLY 92 ever had!!!

Ok...Johnny....you'd have to be John Foxx to make that statement!!!!!

Or maybe you've never heard of TODD PETTENGILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as someone brings Todds name up, I will salute him as well. What Todd brought to the staff was a personal pride to succeed, something I haven't seen at a station before or since. I've said this many times to many people, and it's true cuz it worked! In the old studios were two pictures on the wall, one of the Albany skyline, the other of NYC. The "reality" was we were in Albany...the "perception was we worked in the number 1 market in the country. It was motivational to all of us, and it gave us the balls to think we could do anything. It wasn't just the pictures though, as Todd created a TEAM....how many of those do you see today?

No one....repeat, NO ONE does anymore. The programmers you see now are nothing more than shoadows of former PD's in the business. That's not necessarily a slam on some current ones, it's just that the state of the radio industry right now is corporate. You know what that means....stale, boring, by-the-book and following the lead of corporate radio consultants. None of these lead to creative or enticing radio for listeners. What's gone are the wide-open, no-holds barred radio operations in programming, promotions and marketing.

You're right....Todd was the master of not only making people notice, but taking care of his staff, sticking up for them and creating a fun environment to do radio. You always knew what the objective was and how to get there and it was fun to win and to get there. The "big market" mentality was key. He always had airchecks from bigger markets to listen to and encouraged staff to listen to them..if for nothing else, than to aspire to greater heights. Now, you're lucky if any area programmer can name top stations in Chicago, L.A., San Francisco or, even NYC for that matter..and that's sad. It's just the same old BAD radio regurgitated in the Capital Region.

I see Boomer or cbs6rocks whatever you want to call him, is misinformed again, thats ok though nobody's perfect. The amazing part is this topic was about albany programmers, I see were taking the time to bash each other instead of foucusing at the topic on hand.

As for programming I think Chris Holmberg did a great job at B95 beore he left Abc. There are a lot of good programmers to come thru the Albany Market, Todd Pettengill will always stand out.

If you are referring to criticizing the lack of good programmers in Albany...that's just a fact,period....that's not bashing. The topic at hand is "Good Albany Programmers" and if there aren't any, or one or two, then saying that is not bashing.

Timmy,
I am cool with you creating another alias. Just please do not start agreeing with yourself through the use of aliases....like you used to do when B,E+BR were firstlet go.

Hey Jaques

When you discover who I am, and not Timmy.....then we can talk but until then get your facts straight. Maybe you should discover what it is to have worked in radio.

Settle down Timbo. Timbo Weaksauce. I do not interrupt you announcing the electric slide, so I would appreciate it if you did not comment on my profession. Now stop reading this board.

My dear friend, I am not who you say I am, if you knew who I was there would be no reason to disagree with me here. Go ahead, ask Timmy who I am, or better yet ask anyone who has worked with me in the radio business. The bottom line is you need to check your sources before you make a claim here, so go discover a telephone and call someone who cares......Rokstar out!!!!

Timbo,

I do not know what paranoid world you are from, but in my world, programmers do not dictate what I do in my free time. And since you do not work for ABC, please do not suggest what I do or do not do. Thanks. Jaques out!
