Albany Ratings

Wow, Clear Channel has a whopping 23.5 overall rating on Urban 96.3 WJIZ. I know once upon a time Albany had Cumulus' BLAZIN 102 and On Top's HOT 106 competing with 96.3 WJIZ. On Top (Steve Hegwood) returned with POWER 105.5 for some competition, but they have gone too. Now, 96.3 WJIZ have no direct competition. Why isn't anyone competing with them? Is it time for Cumulus to ditch the CHR format on Q102 and go Urban?

WJIZ is Albany' heritage urban station, having been in the format for over 30-years. It will be a tough uphill battle for anyone to beat WJIZ although I wont say impossible. If anyone else enters the urban challenge and takes on WJIZ, it should be an interesting competitive battle for the number one spot.

Dont count it...Cumulus wont try hip hop again in Albany plus...102.1 has a very weak signal over Albany..thats the issue we had when i worked for cumulus once a point of time.

the closest anyone has ever gotten was Steve Hegwood in 1999 when his station Hot 106 came within a share of WJIZ.

Thai is impressive! If Mr. Hegwood came within a share of breaking even with WJIZ, I'm curious why he didn't continue a head-to-head competition against 96.3 with the intent of becoming the number one urban station?

He came back to Albany with Urban POWER 105.5 a couple of years ago but I forgot what really happened to that station.

He traded Power 105.5 for that signal in Atlanta

An Urban competitor would have a very hard time making a go of it in this South Georgia market against WJIZ. They have 30 years of dominance in the market and the format is solid!
