It's a shame that broadcasters have gotten to cater strictly to the 25 to 54 demographic and to the most shallow listening preferences out there! The days of four figure playlists seem to be a thing of the past, especially on major signal FMs. I think an effort has been made with the adult hit-variety format, but this only goes so far.Osama said:What about somebody just doing a good 60's/early 70s based Oldies station even including some 50s titles too?
There was such a variety of great music released during those years. WROW/WTRY/WCKM are all wretched....and to my ears entirely unlistenable...Not every station needs to appeal to the 39 year old that has maxed out his credit cards...
I realize that the FCC and other forces have been doing their best to keep AM an inferior band. But it doesn't have to be that way. I think there can be a quality analog transmission standard implemented and there are ways that broadcasters can get the most out of their AM signals. Whether or not the powers-that-be at 590 want to do that is another matter.vinyltapecd said:I could not agree more. Except: I think the music on WROW is excellent, especially compared to everything else on the radio... the one and only reason WROW is wretched is because it is an AM station...
You may want to get your car radio checked out because you may have a loose connection someplace. It could be the antenna or something else.Seltzer said:I may not be able to enjoy it in the car yet because of AM static, but that is changing too with internet access in cars a sure thing coming soon.

Thanks for bringing some sense to this discussion! I'll refer all to my previous posts here.RBW said:vinyltapecd said:But now Magic is virtually dead; who the hell listens to music on AM...even YouTube sounds better.
I DO. I listen to music on AM, alot. And YouTube doesn't sound better!!
If you like it so much, you'll get over this AM phobia thing you seem to suffer from!! (just give it a try for cryin' out loud)

The reason for this is the computers are ususally shielded but as the car ages the places where the shield is fastened become oxidized, causing the shield to become a transmitting antenna of this interference. If one could take the cover off, and clean these points with fine grade emery paper, it might help.

Outside interference come from many sources; breaks in the CATV, neon signs, cash registers in businesses, and if you are close enough, computer in homes and businesses, WIFI sometimes causes problems.
