Albany-Schenectady-Troy Summer 2011 Arbitron Ratings

http://www.radio-info.com/markets/albany-schenectady-troy

Wow, Jamz is really firing up it seems and Crush inched up a bit... and Cat and GNA both down? Looks like the B is starting to sink in the "River" as well :)

Wonder if 104.9 is due for their inevitable wheel of format spin anytime soon? Can't wait to see what the fall book looks like, especially with B95 and Rock 100.9... if B95 or River went all Christmas, they could possibly beat GNA for the fall 2011 book...

Jamz is firing up yes there is no competition against them I would love to see Crush FM Go Rhythmic Top 40, plans seem like they want Crush Going Top 40 CHR will have to see what happens.

Cat and WGNA are competing and B95 and River are going at it but jamz 96.3 there out in no mans land doing there own thing no competition I swear Crush would make good competition unless they decide to go after Fly 92.

B95.5 and The River are doing good, B95 is changing and so will Crush

its all ?????????

HOT AC,Rhythmic Top 40, and Top 40 CHR rule the albany radio scene if WGNA Holds on.

Crush FM needs to find traction and to do that they must change there 90 hit format

The Summer ratings for market #65 are interesting even to an observer on this end of the Thruway. WFLY and WRVE made impressive gains compared to Spring '11 and look good compared to Summer '10. But Persons 12+ is a vague indicator. Persons 25-54, 18-49 and 18-34 tell the real story. WGNA looks a little soft 12+, but if it's anything like WYRK, Town Square's Buffalo Country station which tops 12+ and almost every other important demo in market #55, WGNA could have scored well 25-54 and 35-64.

Why were both Oldies FM stations down as well as MOR/Oldies Hybrid Magic 590 ? Where are these listeners going as an alternative ? Perhaps the excess level of the echo on 590 over every element caused listener fatigue, but what explanation for the FM's ?

A) Remember these are the 12+ "beauty contest" numbers that nobody cares about. The real
performance indicators are 25-54, 18-49 and 18-34.

B) Summer book numbers tend to be skewed but people's regular listening habits are changed due
to vacations, etc.

C) Rather than comparing Spring to Summer results, compare Summer 2010 to Summer 2011
results. (I suspect that The River got luck with diary placement this time around).

D) Do a 5 book avg to get a better sense of how the stations are performing in the "beauty
contest" horse race.
