Albany TV salaries/help requested

A friend of mine is looking to move to Albany (relationship reasons). She has an interview at one of the local stations for a possible 11pm producer opening. I want to give her some sort of salary expectation before she arrives for the interview.

Can anyone give me a general salary range for TV news producers in Albany? I'm guessing no more than $30k, but I would love to be proven wrong. She has 3 years of experience reporting/anchoring in very small markets, and 2 years of producing part-time in a large market.
______________

Just call them!

I would call the person in charge and simply ask...

Yeah, right- as if they will tell you. Salaries are not set in stone. They know what the budget is, and they always strive to come in well under.

> Channel 10 is notorious for being the lowest paying. May be even lower than Capital News 9. Channel six is a union shop, so it will probably be a fair amount higher- but you'll pony up some heavy union dues. (about $1200 to join Aftra, for starters)

Channel 13, I've heard they are quite good too. Never heard any complaints from workers there.

Fox, well they are related to Clear Channel, so I wouldn't expect much.

Your friend has limited experience, but just about on par with the lower pay she can expect. The more experienced applicants will be probably turn it down because of low pay. I would think 30k would be a tad high. She may be stuck part-time.

Let us know how she does!

Re:

It is indeed the CBS affiliate where she has the interview. I had forgotten about the union problem, which she mentioned, so thank you for answering that question. Only the engineers, editors and photographers belong to a union at our current station.

To the first responder, like any tv soldier, you have to be armed with everything when battling for a job. I always make certain to stay current with salary trends before seeking a new job. I want my friend to have the same advantage. I've warned her not to expect too much (I told her $28k before posting my original message), since she would step down 25 markets.
______________

Re:

The CBS affiliate here has a certain long-term news anchor, who is well known for "perfectionism" (a-hem). This anchor will chew up the meek and spit them out! Even the not-so-meek. Management apparently does what this person says. Some would say this person is toxic, especially to budding careers.
Your friend should be well aware of this issue, and negotiate accordingly.....i.e., Hazard Pay. Perhaps ask what happened to the person she is replacing.....I hope your friend is very very thick skinned.
