Albert Flores returns to San Antonio TV

In today's newspaper, an article informed the short memoried populace that a former weather personality was returning to TV. WOAI TV CH 4 has hired former KENS TV CH 5 weatherperson to read a weather synopsis which some outsourced weather service sells to his employer. Albert Flores was part of the long time news team at KENS 5 along with Chris Marrou and the legendary late Dan Cook. Some years ago, it was reported that Flores had been plagarizing, word for word without crediting or footnoting the source, articles which someone else had written and published, for his daily weather column in the local paper. When asked about this rather embarrassing situation, Flores only offered excuses about being so busy with all of the other businesses that he was involved with, that he didn't have time to write those articles himself. But further investigation revealed it not to be a one time shortcut. I forgot how long the controversy went on until he was dismissed, not for plagarizing articles for his column, but for never apologizing for his doing it, not that it really mattered. Whatever credibility he had evaporated like the chances we normally have for rain. The general overall opinion was that if he couldn't write weather articles for a newspaper column which he was paid for, how could he compose his twice daily weather forecasts? The MySA.com article never mentioned this little forgotten fact of local TV history.
 
Yea. Albert screwed up bigtime, but I really hope he's all right now. You can only beat someone for so long for messing up.

If you read the link, the author wasn't upset with Flores, but with KENS-TV and The Express-News. I'm guessing the corporate lawyers suggested an apology would be an admission of guilt. And they probably told Flores to follow suit. Still the author forgave Flores but not the suits.

And again... The author forgave him in 2002. It's time to move on.
 
Still, plagarism is plagarism and professionals such as Flores are not supposed to engage in such common herd practices. Just try that in college and see how far you'll get or try that when submitting a technical paper to a trade magazine.

Agreed. However, why on earth was Flores even asked to write a column in a newspaper? And, if he didn't have time or the knowledge (not everyone's a proficient researcher/writer), why was he forced to continue?

Having lived in San Antonio when this happened, I swear that KENS was just looking for an excuse to fire Flores and promote Bill Taylor to Chief Met. But perhaps I misread the situation.
 
Why harp on ancient history, 1st of 5? He made a mistake, he was punished in so many ways. He's kept clean since. He put all this behind him. Let it go.

I'm glad that none of US have made a bad mistake in the past 10 years. ::) Granted, he was in WAY over his head. But it's over.

Honestly, I think this "1st of 5" guy has some sort of personal beef with Albert. It's been almost 10 years. Even the guy who he plagerized from has forgiven him. Let it go. I think most SA viewers will be excited to see him back on the air. Here's wishing him all the best!

Ancient history? Wow, wasn't aware 200freaking2 was so long ago.
