Albuquerque DJ Stalked and Terrified

Unfortunately, this kind of thing is pretty common in radio. I remember when I worked in radio in Tulsa and one of the local rock stations got lots of calls from a deranged fan. They finally arrested him after he called the night jock and told her she could die in a flaming car crash. I worked at a country station across town, and some of our jocks had bodyguards when going to certain remotes.

I had a similar thing happen to me when I first got into the Biz....Calls would go like this..I saw you yesterday driving down such and such street to your house......She knew what car I drove and where I lived
I was freaking and that was back in the innocent days of the 80's. I urge her station to do all it can to keep her safe

The big question is "What is the station doing about it?" Do they have security on premises overnight? Is there anybody else in the building?

How many stations out there have one live body in the building overnight - and that person is a young female isolated in a soundproof studio that doesn't have a lock on the door. Door may be secured, but is there an alarm system that would call for help if somebody broke in?

Unfortunately this is a difficult situation at best. Back in the 1980's I was stalked by a multiple personality "listener" and it was fairly terrifying. It became more terrifying when, after I met with management, the best line they gave me was "well, just stop talking to them". In a situation like this, you realize at one point that the person involved has crossed a line and is dangerous. Unfortunatley todays management is more concerned with harrassment in the office that they forget that our jobs put us out there for anyone to want to invite themselves "in" beyond the show.
Here's some simple, yet effective ways for you to protect yourself.
1. Take a self defense course.
2. Carry pepper spray.
3. Carry a stun gun.
4. Carry a gun. (yes, concealed...that was my solution. It was extreme, but it gave me the peace of mind I needed. My situation was extreme with almost pysical confrontation and threats of death, your milage may vary.)

At the end of the day, your life and your family's is more important than anything else. Don't let anything get in the way of that. There is no argument you can have that sides away from that fact. No way.

I had one call and get my home number from the front desk then called my hose nad told my spouse I was sleeping with them.
