Albuquerque now has a 2nd Duopoly

I don't think this has been reported...

http://www.tvweek.com/news.cms?newsId=10442

KRQE will be producing KASA's newscasts. I know KOB has done since circa 2000. I'm hoping KRQE continues to strengthen as until a few years ago the station seemed like it would be forever stuck at #3 the market. Since ex-KOAT Action 7 News anchor Dick Knipfing joined it's no longer is the case :)

In case your wondering, the other duopoly is that of Acme, who owns KASY(UPN;soon to be MNTV) and KWBQ(WB; soon to be CW). They recently have decided against changing KWBQ's call sign.

Is this Legal? I thought no doulopies are allowed on VHF-VHF. Ch2 is a VHF station and CH13 is a VHF. I thought there are not allowed if it less than 7 VHF tv station in the market. LA & NYC are the execptions because they have 7 VHF stations in the market.

Did I mention there are 6 VHF Stations in Alberquerque, not 7.

KASA 2 - FOX
KOB 4 - NBC
KNME 5 - PBS
KOAT 7 - ABC
KCHF 11 - Religion
KRQE 13 - CBS

One station producing news for another isn't really a duopoly per se.

LIN TV, which owns KRQE-13(CBS), has now bought KASA-2(FOX) from Raycom. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Then, how could the legality of the two VHF duopolies in L.A. be explained?

LIN is claiming that it's legal because KASA is not one of the top four stations in the Albuquerque market (the Univision affiliate apparently gets better ratings than them).

If one counts KASA-2 and KCHF-11 (both licensed to Santa Fe) as Albuquerque stations then there are indeed seven, the 7th being KNMD-9. It's a digital-only station, owned by channel 5. (and I suppose by that count, there are actually *eight* VHF stations in Albuquerque, the 8th being KCHF-DT on channel 10)

That is correct. KLUZ is the fourth ranked station in the market, and KASA is #5. The FCC does not prohibit VHF/VHF duopolies outright, which I think you're alluding to, but such duopolies are rare as most markets either have four or fewer VHF's, all of which are top-4, or don't have at least 8 distinct voices after such a purchase.
