Alec Baldwin on the set of Rust fired a prop gun that killed a cinematographer and injured a director

This kind of thing is uncommon, but has happened before. Perhaps the most important incident was in '82, though somewhat dissimilar situations.

It has gotten to be so that any situation that ends up with Gloria Allred litigating is as stereotypical as any argument that brings up Hitler, Nazis or the Third Reich.

For introducing the Nazis into an argument, we have Godwin's Law. We need some term for any case that ends up creating "screen time" for Gloria.

Rust script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, the first person to call 911 after Halyna Hutchins was accidentally shot by Alec Balwin on the film's set last month, broke down in tears today as she announced she is filing a lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and other producers of the low-budget Western movie.

^^
The suit claims assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and deliberate infliction of harm. It also states that the scene being shot did not require a gun to be fired.

The suit names names 22 defendants associated with the film including Baldwin, Rust producers, six production companies - El Dorado Pictures, Thomasville Pictures, Short Porch Pictures, Brittany House Pictures, 3rd Shift Media and Streamline Global - armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, First Assistant Director David Halls and others.

As I think someone else stated, this particular case will most likely be drawn out for a while. More lawsuits will be filed, the facts (and lots of rumor) will be discussed and debated in the media - both traditional and social, others who work in that industry will give their opinions, the gun lobby and 2nd amendment folks will be vocal, those who hate Baldwin for whatever reason will try and make him out to be solely responsible and a murderer, and in the end, hopefully some good will come out of it - meaning the industry and those using firearms will enact safer and stricter policies that will lead to safer working and filming environments and even for people like illusionists who use firearms in their performances.

I have to believe that had Baldwin and the crew on the movie set followed existing safety protocols, we wouldn't be talking about a fatal accident on set. The facts will come out, but anyone who knows anything about firearm safety knows that this tragedy should have never happened.

Alec Baldwin sits down with George Stephanopoulos at ABC for his first interview since the tragedy on the set of Rust. I'll air on Thursday night at 8 p.m.

Actor Alec Baldwin told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview that he had "no idea" how a live bullet got onto the set of his film, "Rust," but that he "didn't pull the trigger" on the firearm that killed one person and wounded another.

"I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them, never,"

The defendants include Rust Movie Productions LLC, Baldwin, 3rd Shift Media, Thomasville Pictures and other individual producers. The suit also names first assistant director David Halls, armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, prop master Sarah Zachry and Seth Kenney of PDQ Arm & Prop.

Alec Baldwin sued by family of late ‘Rust’ cinematographer Halyna Hutchins

Lawyers for Halyna Hutchins’ family filed a wrongful-death suit against actor Alec Baldwin on Tuesday — while releasing a chilling video re-enacting the movie-set shooting that killed the cinematographer.

The eerie animated footage, titled “Killing of Halyna Hutchins on the set of ‘Rust,’ ” uses computer-generated figures of Baldwin and others on the fated film shoot that day.

It includes the moment the star allegedly pulled the trigger of what was supposed to have been a prop gun with blank bullets.
