Alerts on HD radio

I noticed on a few of my HD radios, four FM stations (WXTU/WTDY/WOGL and WBEB), and two (WPHT, WCBS) AM stations, have either an A, triangle or the word Alert showing next to the HD readout. What does this mean, is it an Emergency prompt to activate something. Thanks in advance.

it means that the station is a primary entry point and can display alerts like weather and amber alerts
