ALEX BURTON HAS DIED

According to the Dallas Morning News:

"Alex Burton, longtime radio and television newsman, died Thursday of complications of prostate cancer at Treemont Healthcare & Rehab Center in Dallas. He was 80."

Heard him on KRLD often when I was growing up. He & his work were greatness ! He will be missed.

Saw Alex just this last spring at a banquet. He was the featured speaker and was great. He spoke of his interests at the time - working with the blind.
He was a true ground breaker in radio and television.
Another great one gone!

Around 1980, Alex narrated a wonderful Christmas special called "An American Christmas" that was syndicated nationally. Truly homespun and the best I've ever heard. I've run it at almost every station I've worked at since...including KLUV for about five years. A couple of years ago he heard about us running it and called and offered to do custom station breaks to run inside the show. Class act.

There will be a Memorial Service for, longtime DFW broadcaster Alex Burton Sunday afternoon, September 23, 2:00 PM, at the Texas Theater on Jefferson Street in Oak Cliff.
