ALEX TEAR GETS PROMOTION

Word is that Alex Tear is now operations manager of all six stations (Clear Channel) plus will still be PD at 3WS and KISS. Two jobs for the price of one? ;)

A growing trend at CC. Word is that many of their high-profile personalities around the country will be "syndicated" around the country next year for very little extra compensation, as the number of employees across the company falls dramatically.

Another example of how CC has been ruining our industry since the 90's.

Let me clarify what I meant... I meant no disrespect to Alex but to the policies and procedures that CC has incorporated over the past decade or so.

Another example of what someone should npot say on a message board if they want a better gig someday.... dude, really....

Let me explain...

I have nothing but respect for those in our industry that work their tails off for CC. I have quite a few friends that work in the Pitt and Cincy CC markets. And I also have friends that have had the "Clear Channel Experience". What is that you might ask? No job security, budget cuts, termination of contracts, 5 people to run 5 stations, 1 guy voice tracking 25 markets, no promotional budgets, and the list goes on.

My school of thought is "live and local". I am like many in the industry. I am not on the air for an ego boost or because ppl know who I am. But for a couple simple reasons. I love music, I love to make ppl laugh, I love to entertain, and I just flat out love radio. There is no doubt that it is my passion. I am like many that believe that the only way terrestrial radio is going to overcome ipods, zunes, and satellite. Is to be live and local.

There is no avenues for young talent to grow and learn anymore. There will come a time in the next 10 to 15 years where there will be no younger generation of radio professionals to pass our craft onto. If we don't get back to live and local and giving one person one job description.

ps - If you haven't noticed, I have a big mouth and don't hide it. HA!

He will succeed because of his program directors and assistant program directors.

Nick, I thought the same as Part-timer. Regardless of the "Clear Channel Experience". You keep your mouth shut if you want in someday here in the Burgh.

Noted.

But don't you agree that if we want to see any change in our beloved industry that we need to voice our thoughts and concerns? I love what I have been blessed to do. And it's like watch someone you love slowly drifting away forever. I love radio and I love listening to other jocks in other markets. We need more variety and new talent. We need to interact with the listeners more and make THEM the focus of all of our efforts. Not what the shareholders want or think.

Maybe I am one voice for many who are silent.

Aaahh! Another rebel like myself! ;) ;) (hint: notice my slogan under my name)

That has been my problem most of my life. I speak my opinions quite freely. Unfortunately in the radio biz, there are too many chiefs and few indians, and if you step on chiefs feet, or for that matter, most employees, you may be out the door quickly because they are afraid you may take their job in the end, and THAT can't happen!!! ;D

I know from experience first hand!

One of the reasons I got out of radio. So I could be my own boss and call the shots completely, plus make more money.

Save up your money, then buy a station going under later on for a hobby and tax shelter. Heck, I am still thinking of it after all these years.

Good luck Nick! As Casey Kasem says "Keep your head up and keep reaching for the stars!

Thank you...

I have dreams of owning my own stick one of these days. I'm only 26 so I hope I can my the right professional and financial decisions to make that dream a reality.

Rip whoever you want, just don't use your real name.....

My intent was not to "rip" on anyone. I am sorry that you interpreted my posts that way. I was voicing my views of a "Mom and Pop" strategy vs "Corp. downsizing". Not meant to offend anyone. That is not my style.

Alex Tear is a good guy. I hope they treat him well.

Nick, keep on preaching that live-and-local, brother.

It's the only difference between radio, and the iPod.

C.

Nick, I think the advice here is that posting critical comments about stations, companies, PDs, could be costly when you're applying for jobs. Why put yourself at a disadvantage in a job market that's already tough?

I didn't look at it in that perspective. Thank you.

And that's what I meant as well.... there are a couple of ways to participate in these boards. I don't identify myself for a couple of reasons:
1) I was a really insignificant part of the market a long time ago and no one cares who I am
2) I work in another industry, and although I tend to take the high road in discussions for the most part, on the odd chance that I might offend someone I don't need it coming back on me in my profession.

If you are going to post as yourself, you MUST take the approach that people like Clarke and John Summers take, and think before you type.
