ALEX TREBEK IS 71, WHO COULD FILL HIS SHOES ?

Peter Sagal, host of NPR's Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me

LeVar Burton, actor, former host of Reading Rainbow

Linda Cohn, ESPN SportsCenter anchor

One of the Jeopardy! Clue Crew members (Jimmy McGuire, Kelly Miyahara, Sarah Whitcomb)

I think if Trebek ever died, "Jeopardy!" would die with him. I'm a huge fan of the late Art Fleming, but Trebek is "Jeopardy!". I don't think you'll find anyone else who lets the game be what it is and doesn't call attention to himself. Even Fleming tended to ham it up at times - remember, he was an actor before he was a game show host, and saw "Jeopardy!" as another role to play. Trebek, on the other hand, is truly the "host" as opposed to the "star".

Who is.....John O'Hurley?

Elaine Benes' boss on Seinfeld, Peterman. Also former Family Feud host, before Steve Harvey.

And I second the nomination for Will Ferrell.

LOL to everyone's suggestions. However, there isn't going to be any immediate need for a new Jeopardy host. Alex Trebek is said to be making a fast recovery from what turned out to be a mild heart attack and he'll be back on the set in a couple of weeks according to all reports. He won't be going anywhere soon.

If he DOES ever decide to walk away, my guess is his successor will be Jeff Probst, who DID host Rock and Roll Jeopardy on MTV for several seasons before taking up the host's job on Survivor on CBS. Probst could conceivably handle both shows at once since Survivor is only filmed for six weeks twice a year plus one prime time live show at the end of each season, and most game show strips in both network and syndicated runs are taped one week a month for about seven months out of the calendar year. He'd be able to handle both and still have plenty of downtime for vacation and other projects. And Probst would be able to stay with it for a long time...he just turned 50 at the end of last year.

That's not an option if Jeff Probst's own syndicated talk show catches on.
